The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Luffy tries to clinch up.
Kubota changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Luffy tries to clinch but Kubota moves out of range.
Luffy throws a head kick that half lands.
Luffy will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Kubota circles away from the clinch attempt.

and Kubota counters by clinching up.

Kubota pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Luffy keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Monkey Luffy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Luffy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Kubota pushes Luffy off and gets back to his feet.

Kubota plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!
Luffy tries for a takedown but Kubota circles away easily

and Kubota moves into the clinch.
Kyoji Kubota has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Monkey Luffy.
A real battle for position is taking place between these two warriors.

Kubota breaks from the clinch.
Luffy fails with a takedown attempt.
Kubota lands a glancing blow to the side of Luffy's head.
Luffy tries to grapple but his opponent circles
and Kubota counters with a series of strikes. Luffy will be more careful next time no doubt.

Kubota clinches up with Luffy and pushes him back against the cage.

Luffy breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Kubota misses with a wild combination.

Kubota drives through and clinches with Luffy against the cage.
Kubota pushes Luffy back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Kubota pulls guard successfully.

Luffy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Kubota, up you get!
Kubota avoids a punch combination nicely.
Kubota thinks about countering with a head kick.
Kubota moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.
Luffy fails in his attempt to clinch.
Kubota defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Luffy.
Luffy looks winded!
Kubota keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
As Luffy looks to move away, Kubota throws a big counter combo but Luffy just gets out of the way.

Kubota throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Luffy tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Kubota is in Luffy's guard.

Kubota decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Kubota lands with a nice body kick.

Kubota manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Kubota is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Luffy has his hands clasped together but Kubota extends and breaks Luffy's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Kubota.
