Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jae Barnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gabriel Braganca!
The judges for this bout are John Roberts, Anthony Taglia and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braganca shoots for a takedown but Barnes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Braganca throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Barnes tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Braganca is in Barnes's guard.
Braganca controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Barnes is pulling down on Braganca's head to control his posture.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barnes is really struggling to control Braganca but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Braganca closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barnes tries to buck Braganca off but Braganca is having none of it.

It looks like Braganca might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Braganca is looking to take a break and control but Barnes is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.

You can see the frustration on Barnes's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Braganca shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Barnes manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Barnes bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Braganca's guard.


Braganca escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Barnes gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Barnes decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Braganca shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Barnes defends it nicely.
Braganca is breathing heavily.
Braganca is trying hard to land a takedown here. Barnes sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Barnes moves in looking to clinch but Braganca pushes him off.
Braganca drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Barnes defends it well.
Braganca shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barnes pinned against the cage. Barnes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Jae Barnes has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Braganca.

Braganca is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Barnes gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Barnes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Braganca shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barnes pinned against the cage. Barnes gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And Barnes counters with a quick kick to the body but Braganca blocks it.
Barnes really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Barnes shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Barnes throws a strike but Braganca avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Jae Barnes will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Barnes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Braganca works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Barnes wants to get up but he can't break Braganca's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Barnes is trying to maintain the position but Braganca is very close to passing his half guard.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Braganca has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

I think Braganca has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
