The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Payne tries to clinch but Gomes moves out of range.
Gomes is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.

The referee is keeping an eye on Gomes - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.

Payne has hold of one of Gomes's legs. Gomes is fighting the takedown attempt but Payne gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Gomes is looking to stand back up but Payne counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Gomes.

Gomes is positioning himself well to prevent Payne advancing to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gomes throws a sloppy strike from the bottom. He's now off balance and Payne manages to pass to side control.
