PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Merlin Avila (ranked 24940 p4p, 0 weight class) and Naruto Uzumaki (ranked 6431 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Merlin Avila!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Naruto Uzumaki!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yuuki Gou.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Uzumaki fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Avila avoids it really well and circles away.

Uzumaki closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Avila has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Uzumaki uses from the top position.
Uzumaki trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Avila uses the cage to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Uzumaki looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Uzumaki has closed the distance and engaged Avila in a clinch.

Uzumaki jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Avila walks away with a smile on his face. Uzumaki gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

and Avila counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Uzumaki is wriggling around but Avila manages to pass to half guard.


Avila is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Uzumaki sees it coming and defends easily.
Avila prevents Uzumaki from improving his position.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Uzumaki scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Avila manages to mount him!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Uzumaki looks winded!
Avila controlling from mount.
Uzumaki really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Avila takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Uzumaki is in a horrible position here. Avila smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Avila looking to control and managing it successfully.

Avila is standing up, even though he is in mount.

Avila drives through with a takedown into guard.
Avila is standing up over Uzumaki. Uzumaki looks to escape but Avila dives into side control.

Avila really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Avila lands a nice forearm strike.

Avila decides to stand back up.

Avila closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Avila lands in his opponent's guard.
Uzumaki wants to get back to his feet but Avila passes into half guard.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Avila perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

Avila looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Merlin Avila dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!



Avila closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Uzumaki quickly recovers to half guard.
Uzumaki is looking to get back to is feet but Avila passes into side control.
The referee asks Avila politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Avila prefers to stall for the moment though.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Avila has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Avila fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Uzumaki sprawls well initially but Avila persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Uzumaki tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Avila manages to move to mount!
Uzumaki is breathing heavily.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Avila content just to control the position here.
Uzumaki tries to control Avila's body but Avila pushes him off. Uzumaki squirms to his side and now Avila has his back!
Uzumaki just trying to survive but Avila is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.

Avila is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Uzumaki can do to turn this around?

Uzumaki is staying cool under pressure, defending well against the rear naked choke attempt from his opponent.

Uzumaki trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Avila controlling from the back.
Uzumaki can't escape the position.
Avila has good solid back control here.
Avila seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Uzumaki for as long as he can get away with.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Avila will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Uzumaki takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Avila is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Uzumaki pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Avila gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Uzumaki wants to stand back up but Avila manages to pass into side control.
Avila controls the position.
Avila lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear Uzumaki down.
A control attempt from Uzumaki but he's now mounted!

Uzumaki has left one of his arms exposed and Avila doesn't need a second invitation. He's isolated it and locked on a tight armbar. Uzumaki screams and taps out, obviously in a lot of pain. Hopefully there isn't permanent damage to that arm.
