Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Marcio Alvarez (ranked 3044 p4p, 303 weight class) and Teodors Ozolinsh (ranked 1777 p4p, 184 weight class). Alvarez's entrance music is Made in Brazil. A fine choice. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Marcio Alvarez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Teodors Ozolinsh!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Radbod Blank.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ozolinsh swings widly with a right hand

and Alvarez counters with a nice double leg into side control. Ozolinsh won't be happy with that.
Alvarez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Alvarez wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ozolinsh keeps working.
Alvarez tries to advance to mount but can't.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ozolinsh is trying to work for a sweep but Alvarez has mounted him!
Ozolinsh in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.

Alvarez swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Ozolinsh is now in Alvarez's guard. A big mistake from Alvarez there, giving up the dominant position!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Ozolinsh takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

That was a close round but I would say that Marcio Alvarez will probably get the nod.

Alvarez jumps guard but Ozolinsh stands there with Alvarez around his waist. Alvarez gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ozolinsh throws a leg kick which misses Alvarez's front leg but catches the back leg as Alvarez tries to avoid it.

Alvarez ducks under a wild hook from Ozolinsh.
Ozolinsh stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Alvarez.
Ozolinsh throws a body punch but Alvarez moves out of range.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ozolinsh takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.

Alvarez gets control of Ozolinsh's arms and successfully pulls guard. Alvarez will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.

Ozolinsh not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Ozolinsh got a little sloppy there for a moment and Alvarez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ozolinsh has managed to get both his arms back between Alvarez's legs - danger averted.
Alvarez wants to sweep but no luck.

Alvarez has his foot on Ozolinsh's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ozolinsh works his way back into a safe position though.

Alvarez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Ozolinsh doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Ozolinsh manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Alvarez is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Alvarez is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Ozolinsh moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Alvarez.
Marcio Alvarez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Alvarez wants to control but Ozolinsh postures up.
Ozolinsh has control of an arm but Alvarez manages to advance to Ozolinsh's back!

That was a close second round but I would say that Marcio Alvarez will probably get the nod.

A looping hook to the body misses from Ozolinsh. Alvarez does a little dance to reset his feet.

Alvarez throws a nice outside leg kick.
Alvarez does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy.
Ozolinsh scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.

and Ozolinsh counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Ozolinsh connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

Ozolinsh is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Alvarez.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Alvarez thuds his shin into the meat of Ozolinsh's side.

Alvarez is rocked!
Ozolinsh ducks down into range and throws a picture perfect right hook that connects with Alvarez's jaw. Alvarez's eyes stare off into space as he falls to the mat, out cold! Ozolinsh does the decent thing and steps back, rather than landing any shots to his unconscious opponent.
