PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Baron Geisler (ranked 4002 p4p, 508 weight class) and Piotr Boryska (ranked 3811 p4p, 490 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Baron Geisler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Piotr Boryska!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boryska's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Boryska duly obliges.
Boryska fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Boryska will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Geisler feinted there with a counter leg kick.
Boryska has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Geisler is landing a low percentage of strikes.
Boryska has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Boryska there as he acknowledges the shot.


It looks like Piotr Boryska has been cut.

Boryska shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Boryska was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Boryska works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Geisler parries the strikes from Boryska easily there. Boryska is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Geisler to escape.
You can see the frustration on Geisler's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Boryska postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Geisler tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Boryska wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Boryska is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Geisler knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Boryska wants to lay and pray for a moment but Geisler keeps working.

Boryska thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Boryska is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Geisler has escaped the position, nice work there.

Geisler moves out of range as Boryska throws a body kick.
Geisler thinks about countering with a head kick.
Boryska feints a jab promting Geisler to slip. Boryska then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Geisler slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Boryska fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Geisler to the ground. Boryska is now in Geisler's guard.

Boryska drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Boryska jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Geisler is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Geisler knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Boryska on the ground.
Boryska throws a strike but Geisler rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Boryska has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Boryska bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Geisler's guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Boryska shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Geisler as he avoids it easily.

Baron Geisler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Piotr Boryska.
Geisler throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

Geisler scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

That was a close second round but I would say that Baron Geisler will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

and Geisler counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Boryska has gone for a leg lock! Geisler slips out almost immediately though and dives into Boryska's guard.
