PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andrew Morris (ranked 25228 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vaughn Wavey (ranked 6440 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Vaughn Wavey was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Andrew Morris!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Vaughn Wavey!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Morris is on the wrong end of a nice combination from Wavey.


It looks like Andrew Morris has been cut.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wavey shoots in for a double leg but Morris sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Morris tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Wavey manages to circle out of the way.

Wavey shoots in looking for a takedown. Morris tries to sprawl out of it but Wavey keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Morris manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Wavey closes the distance and pushes Morris back into the cage.

Wavey got a little sloppy there for a moment and Morris has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Wavey has managed to get both his arms back between Morris's legs - danger averted.
Morris might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Morris shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Wavey sprawls well. Wavey wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Morris gets slowly back to his feet.

Wavey's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Morris feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Wavey had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Morris defends it easily.

Morris looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Wavey is fending him off so far but Morris persists. Nope, Wavey circles away and we're back to standing.

Wavey has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Morris can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Morris is looking to control Wavey's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Morris avoid being mounted?

Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Wavey has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Morris gets to his feet. Wavey looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Wavey fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Morris dives in for a single leg takedown but Wavey sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Morris tries to score a power double leg takedown but Wavey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Morris somewhat.
Wavey wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Nice takedown defense from Morris. No joy for Wavey on that attempt.

Wavey throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Morris throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Wavey was covering up waiting for the punch and Morris finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Morris would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Wavey wriggles free and stands up.
Wavey lands a front kick.
Andrew Morris is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Morris gets caught napping as Wavey dives in and scores a takedown. Morris manages to retain guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morris is on top in guard.

Well Wavey has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
