Smiles comes to the cage accompanied by Badman forward. Mark Phillips has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with B G Smiles's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, B G Smiles!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Mark Phillips!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smiles shoots in looking for a takedown but Phillips manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Smiles's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Smiles fails with the takedown.
Smiles moves out of range of the strikes.
Smiles drops down looking for a counter takedown but Phillips sprawls and moves away.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Smiles.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for B G Smiles. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Smiles dives in for a single leg takedown but Phillips sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Phillips has worked on his takedown defense in the runup to this fight and it is paying off so far.
Smiles shoots in looking for a takedown. Phillips tries to sprawl out of it but Smiles keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Phillips manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Smiles closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Smiles pulls guard effortlessly.
Phillips wants to get up but he can't break Smiles's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Phillips really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Smiles. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Phillips got a little sloppy there for a moment and Smiles has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Phillips has managed to get both his arms back between Smiles's legs - danger averted.

Smiles has a closed guard, preventing Phillips from standing up.

Smiles has his foot on Phillips's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Phillips works his way back into a safe position though.
Smiles seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

Phillips decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Smiles displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Phillips throws out the jab.
Smiles tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Phillips manages to circle out of the way.
Mark Phillips is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Phillips connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Smiles momentarily.


It looks like B G Smiles has been cut.
Phillips tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Smiles manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
Smiles tries a head kick but it misses.
Smiles sets himself, and Phillips steps forward looking for the clinch! Smiles avoids it this time.
Phillips fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Phillips throws out a loose jab but Smiles uses good head movement to avoid it.
Smiles went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Nice takedown defense from Phillips. No joy for Smiles on that attempt.
Phillips looks to throw the jab but Smiles is out of range.

Phillips drops Smiles with a hook right on the temple. He thinks about going to the ground but Smiles looks back up at him and smiles so Phillips waves him back to his feet - he obviously thinks he can knock him out after that shot landed.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Smiles closes the distance and clinches.
Phillips misses with a short punch on the inside.
Phillips swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Smiles tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Phillips tries to throw a body punch but Smiles avoids it by throwing Phillips back against the cage.

Smiles ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Smiles no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Phillips wants to get up but he can't break Smiles's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Smiles has a closed guard, preventing Phillips from standing up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smiles is adopting a defensive guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Phillips cracks Smiles with a big right hand that sends him to the floor! Smiles looks wobbly but he's sprung back up to his feet straight away… can Phillips finish him?
Phillips misses the jab.
Smiles shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Phillips but Phillips pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Phillips throws a big shot that misses.
A quick step to the side and Smiles tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.
Smiles misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Smiles throws a hook but Phillips avoids it easily.
Smiles closes the distance and clinches up with Phillips, looking for a takedown. Smiles pushes Phillips against the cage but Phillips circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Phillips dominated that round.
The cut man is working on B G Smiles's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Smiles has a takedown stuffed.
Phillips throws an uppercut from hell that sends Smiles clean off his feet! He's out cold! Phillips stands back and admires his work as he thinks about that KO of the night award that is surely being wrapped up for him back stage.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:13 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Mark Phillips!
A very excited looking Mark Phillips rambled incoherently for about 5 minutes post fight about how awesome he is. It was kinda funny for a while but then everyone got annoyed.
B G Smiles spoke after the fight, saying 'I experience a simulation of defeat, much like a feel the simulation of death. It is a program I know. The deaths I remember are just stories that justify the lifetimes of data I've been installed with. There are many realities of which branch out to a number of other potentials. He only won in one.'.
