The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Reed Andrews and Chad Campbell.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No luck with that takedown attempt from Shushkev.
Shushkev pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Thompson connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Thompson scores with a head kick. Shushkev tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Shushkev throws a solid leg kick but Thompson takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Shushkev.
Thompson throws a sloppy head kick and Shushkev moves out of range easily.
Thompson tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Shushkev changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Shushkev throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Shushkev feints and as Thompson raises his hands in defense, Shushkev changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Shushkev tries to free his leg and advance position but Thompson is retaining full guard.
Shushkev throws an elbow that misses. Thompson uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Shushkev's guard. Nice move by Thompson!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Thompson wants to stand up, so he's looking to wriggle free of Shushkev's closed guard. He's half up but Shushkev has locked on to an arm! Uh oh! Shushkev pivots and extends the arm, Thompson falls face first to the mat and taps??... does he?? YES! He's tapping! Excellent counter grappling there by Shushkev! Well done that man!
