Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Crane (ranked 4069 p4p, 462 weight class) and Akihito Yamato (ranked 4757 p4p, 535 weight class). Akihito Yamato will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Frank Crane!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Akihito Yamato!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Tiny Johnson and Wesley Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Crane misses with a takedown attempt
and Yamato counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Crane thinking.
Yamato keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Crane shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Yamato pinned against the cage. Yamato gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Yamato! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Frank Crane. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Crane is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Yamato's half guard.

Crane is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Crane wants to work for an arm triangle but Yamato is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Crane stalling.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Yamato can do anything to dispel that myth.
Yamato avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Crane.

Crane is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Yamato is just riding it out for now. Crane eventually gives up the hold.
Crane content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Crane wants to lay and pray for a moment but Yamato keeps working.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Crane in half guard on the top. He's looking for a kimura... He's got it locked and he's managed to free his trapped foot. Yamato tries to escape but it's on too tight and he has to tap! Great BJJ skills there from Crane!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:43 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Frank Crane!
