The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Carter fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.

It looks like Matt Kinhte has been cut.

and Carter counters with a takedown into side control.
Kinhte manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Kinhte wants to take a breather but Carter is having none of it.
Kinhte working over Carter with some ground and pound. Carter looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Carter wants to control but Kinhte is keeping busy and won't allow it.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Kinhte is just content to waste time from the top position. Carter takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.

Kinhte slips nicely into half guard.
Kinhte stalling away here and it's allowed Carter to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Kinhte is working Carter over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

Kinhte should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Kinhte sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Carter's guard.

Kinhte is stalling here. Carter is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Kinhte seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Carter has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Kinhte manages to work his way to half guard, despite Carter's best efforts.

Carter will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kinhte is trying to keep Carter in close.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

Carter winds up and cracks Kinhte with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Carter closes this distance looking for a takedown but Kinhte circles away.

Kinhte clinches up with Carter and pushes him back against the cage.
Kinhte is trying to force a seperation but Carter has the dominant position.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Kinhte closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Carter quickly recovers to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Carter wants to improve his position but Kinhte is controlling well.

Carter is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Kinhte stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Kinhte tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Carter smiles and moves away.

Kinhte closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Kinhte lands in his opponent's guard.

Kinhte decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Matt Kinhte seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Carter has a takedown stuffed.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Kinhte.
Carter is looking to counter the offense by Kinhte and move into the clinch.

Kinhte looking to score a takedown here. Carter is defending well but Kinhte drives through and ends up in Carter's guard.

Carter has hold of one of Kinhte's legs. Kinhte is fighting the takedown attempt but Carter gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.

Kinhte shoots in for a takedown but Carter shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Kinhte has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Kinhte is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
Kinhte not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Kinhte. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Don Carter.
I think Kinhte has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
