PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Marshall (ranked 993 p4p, 159 weight class) and Paul Poulter (ranked 3147 p4p, 428 weight class). Marshall comes to the cage accompanied by Step Into A World - by: KRS-One. Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 23 - 11 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mason Marshall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 49 - 37 - 2, fighting out of London, Paul Poulter!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Steve Smith and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Poulter looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Marshall throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Marshall moves out of range of the strikes.
Marshall cracks Poulter with a good jab.
Marshall lands a leg kick that knocks Poulter off balance momentarily.
Marshall throws a hook to the side of Poulter's head but Poulter sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Marshall manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Poulter on his heels. He'll look to pass Poulter's guard now, I'm sure.
Marshall in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Marshall throwing strikes but missing.

Marshall content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Marshall missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Marshall is looking to work some ground and pound but Poulter has wrist control.
Marshall throws a big right hand that misses.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Marshall's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

Marshall with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Marshall lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Poulter is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Marshall sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Poulter's guard.

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Marshall lands a nice short elbow.
Poulter avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Marshall.
Marshall lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Marshall takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Marshall throws a strike but Poulter avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Marshall drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Poulter manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Marshall has Poulter in his guard.


The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Marshall is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Marshall not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Poulter must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Marshall is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Poulter throws a strike but Marshall rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.

Marshall pushes down on Poulter's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Poulter wants to get back to full guard.

Marshall looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Marshall has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Marshall thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Poulter's head.

Poulter is defending against the submission attempts here by Marshall.
Marshall throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Marshall working over Poulter with some ground and pound. Poulter looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Marshall looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Marshall is keeping good posture, landing some ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mason Marshall dominated that round.
That's time! Marshall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Marshall is moving around nicely and scores here with a single head shot.
Poulter takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Marshall jabs Poulter right on the nose. Poulter blinks but takes it well.
Nice uppercut lands for Marshall. That snapped Poulter's head back.

The fight stays on the outside here - Marshall looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Marshall connects with a right hand. Poulter shakes it off.
Marshall looks to throw the jab but Poulter is out of range.
Mason Marshall seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Poulter uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Marshall.
Marshall misses with a straight right.
Poulter on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Marshall cracks Poulter with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Marshall throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Poulter on the side of the head.
Poulter cracks Marshall with a good jab.
Poulter takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Poulter slips a straight right by Marshall.
Poulter with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Marshall to score with a decent uppercut.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Marshall keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Poulter.
The fighters circling - Poulter throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Poulter on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Marshall's jab looks to have found its range, popping Poulter under the eye.


Poulter is rocked!
Marshall is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Poulter is still on wobbly legs! Can Marshall finish him?
Marshall unloads with a big right hand that wobbles Poulter! He's leaning against the cage trying to keep his feet but Marshall is unloading with more strikes now! Poulter drops to his knees and the referee stops the fight for a TKO!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:25 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Mason Marshall!
Mason Marshall tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
