Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Darrell Velazquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Joze Batina!
The judges for this bout are Hirohito Nitta, Sosuke Kotani and Ren Mimura.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Batina darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Batina wants to pass to mount but Velazquez is defending the position.

Velazquez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Velazquez closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Batina did well to prevent Velazquez getting side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Batina is looking to get back to full guard here but Velazquez has managed to pass to side control instead.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Velazquez stands up and beckons Batina to his feet.
Batina tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Velazquez paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Velazquez fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Batina to the ground. Velazquez is now in Batina's guard.
Batina wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Velazquez manages to pass to side control.

Batina is looking for a sweep. Velazquez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Batina is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Velazquez jumps into side control!

Velazquez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Batina enables Velazquez to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Batina manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Batina wants to get back to his feet but Velazquez passes into half guard.

Velazquez is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

Batina wants to stand back up but Velazquez manages to pass into side control.

Velazquez stands up.
Velazquez takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.

Batina is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Velazquez's half guard.
Velazquez tries to roll over but Batina keeps him under control.

Batina stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Velazquez to get to his feet.

Velazquez pushes Batina up against the cage in a clinch.
Velazquez just leaning against Batina, taking a breather.

Batina wants the takedown. Velazquez is fighting it off but Batina persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Velazquez's guard against the cage.
Batina tries to free his leg and advance position but Velazquez is retaining full guard.
Velazquez doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Velazquez wants to get back to his feet but Batina passes into half guard.

Batina lands with a punch from half guard.
Batina throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Velazquez tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.

Velazquez is looking to control Batina's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Velazquez avoid being mounted?
Batina wants to take a breather but Velazquez is having none of it.
Velazquez pushes Batina off looking to stand but Batina dives back in and keeps control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Darrell Velazquez will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Velazquez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Velazquez gets to his feet - Batina follows without any prompting.
Batina stuffs the takedown.

Batina manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Velazquez on his heels. He'll look to pass Velazquez's guard now, I'm sure.
Velazquez thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Velazquez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Velazquez wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Velazquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Batina advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Velazquez wanted to stand there but Batina had control of the position.
Velazquez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Batina is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Batina wants to sweep here but Velazquez controlling him for the moment.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

A close second round but Joze Batina will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!


The fight stays on the outside here - Batina looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Batina bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Velazquez's guard.

Batina would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Velazquez will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Batina prevents Velazquez from getting back to his feet.

Batina drops back, looking for a kneebar! Velazquez looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Velazquez looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Velazquez!

Batina is looking to regain half guard here but Velazquez keeps moving and retains side control.

Batina can't do much from the bottom here.

Velazquez tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Velazquez has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Velazquez remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Batina trying to control but Velazquez flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

So, who will make the next big move? In this position it could be crucial.
Velazquez avoiding Batina 's attempts to control his hands.
Batina might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Velazquez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Velazquez keeps control of the position as Batina tries to break free.
Velazquez is not going to allow Batina to sit and survive in this position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Batina is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Batina is really stuck here.
Batina is trapped and Velazquez is scoring with shots to the head and body.
Batina wants to control his opponent's hands but Velazquez gets his hands free.
Batina is being controlled on the ground here - he must escape this position otherwise surely the end is near.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Batina tries to escape but Velazquez has the hooks in and won't let him break free.

And that's the end of the fight!
