PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Murhaas Jo (ranked 2961 p4p, 60 weight class) and Ruben Aguirre (ranked 1976 p4p, 60 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the super heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ruben Aguirre!
The judges for this bout are Winston Alpacca, Daniel Franklin and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Aguirre misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Jo.
Aguirre with a jab.


It looks like Murhaas Jo has been cut.
Aguirre bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Jo's head backwards.
Aguirre's coach down at Ferocious Beast was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Aguirre's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight.
Aguirre circles away from the clinch attempt.
Aguirre misses with an uppercut. Jo saw that one coming.
Aguirre slips under a jab.
Ruben Aguirre seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jo moves out of range as Aguirre strikes.

Jo tries to close the distance and clinch but Aguirre swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Aguirre might want to mix his strikes up a bit more. He's just going for head shots at the moment and that can become a bit predictable.
Jo tries to close the distance and clinch up but Aguirre swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Aguirre tries to break free but Jo pushes him back against the cage.

Aguirre can't find room to land a body shot as Jo controls the action.

Aguirre breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Aguirre throws a big shot that misses.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jo is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Jo takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Jo moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Jo throws a good cross that connects.
Jo bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Jo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Aguirre scores with a nice right hand.


Murhaas Jo's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Aguirre on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
Aguirre swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Aguirre lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Aguirre misses with an uppercut.
Aguirre looks to land a left hand but Jo moved out of range nicely.
Aguirre throws a looping overhand right but Jo ducks down to avoid it.
Aguirre stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.

This has been an exciting period of action!

Jo swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Aguirre lands a jab to Jo's midsection.
Aguirre scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.


Jeez, Murhaas Jo's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

Aguirre throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.
Aguirre throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Jo sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Jo drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.
Jo looks to land a left hand but Aguirre moved out of range nicely.
Jo slips under a jab.
A swing and a miss from Aguirre.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Aguirre has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Aguirre there as he acknowledges the shot.

Jo moves into the clinch successfully.

Jo's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A looping hook to the body misses from Aguirre. Jo does a little dance to reset his feet.

Aguirre looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Aguirre throws a body shot but no joy.
A quick step to the side and Jo tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect.

Ruben Aguirre seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jo ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The crowd cheers as Aguirre lands an impressive looking overhand right. Jo doesn't seem phased though.

Jo is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Aguirre.
Jo has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Jo looks like he's developed a pretty tasty lump over his left eye. He'll need to avoid taking much more damage to that.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Murhaas Jo's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
