Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alfred Carver!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Peter Rolen!
The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Ian Loll and Trevor Gratis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rolen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Carver pinned against the cage. Carver gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Rolen moves into the clinch.
Carver tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Rolen smiles and moves away.

Carver scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Rolen manages to escape and get back to his feet!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Carver avoids the head kick by Rolen.

Rolen clinches up against the cage.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Rolen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown attempt by Rolen or perhaps it was just good defense by Carver, which made it look bad.

and Carver counters with a nice double leg into side control. Rolen won't be happy with that.

Rolen bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Alfred Carver has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Peter Rolen.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rolen has hold of one of Carver's legs. Carver is fighting the takedown attempt but Rolen gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Carver is trying to control the position from the bottom.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Carver holds on and takes a little breather.

Rolen wants to stand but Carver has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Carver bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rolen's guard.

Rolen has a closed guard, preventing Carver from standing up.

Rolen throws his legs up looking for a submission but Carver uses it to pass to side control.
Rolen told us pre-fight that he has been working on his escapes in training. Let's see if he can call on some of his new skills to get back to his feet.
Rolen is looking for a sweep.
Carver tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Carver stands up and beckons Rolen to his feet.

Rolen drives through and clinches with Carver against the cage.

Rolen manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Carver tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Rolen wants to control the position but Carver says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.

Rolen trying to hold on to Carver's head to control him but Carver postures up.
Carver is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Rolen dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Rolen looks to land a combination but Carver avoids it well.
Peter Rolen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Rolen shoots for a takedown but Carver saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Rolen gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Rolen tries to score a body lock takedown but Carver shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Rolen pulls guard effortlessly.
Carver is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

Rolen working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Carver doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Carver manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Rolen is trying to control the position from the bottom.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
A low kick from Rolen is predictable there

and Carver counters with a shoot takedown. Rolen fights it but they end up in guard.
Carver's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Rolen tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Rolen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Carver controls the pace.
Rolen looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Carver puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Carver gets tackled into the cage by Rolen. Rolen maintains the clinch.
Carver has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Rolen breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rolen lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Carver circles away quickly and effectively.
Carver misses with a takedown attempt - Rolen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Peter Rolen showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Carver's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!

Rolen drops back, looking for a kneebar! Carver looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Carver looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Carver!

Carver with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rolen is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

Carver looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Alfred Carver overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Carver get's back to his feet.

Rolen clinches up against the cage.
Carver tries to pull guard but Rolen holds him up against the cage and eventually Carver drops back down to his feet.

Carver gets tackled into the cage by Rolen. Rolen maintains the clinch.
Rolen lands a right hand that snaps the head of Carver backwards.

Rolen breaks the clinch.

Rolen clinches with his opponent.

Rolen pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Rolen fails with a takedown attempt.

Rolen instigates a clinch.
Rolen has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Rolen escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Carver misses with a takedown attempt - Rolen sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

Rolen moves into the clinch.

Rolen tightens his grip and picks Carver up, before dumping him to the ground. Carver manages to land in guard.
Peter Rolen is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Well Rolen has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Peter Rolen tried to hype himself up post fight but didn't word it too well and it ended up with him sounding like a bit of a tool.
