Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Frank Martinez (ranked 9227 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ghassan Habibi (ranked 6183 p4p, 0 weight class). Ghassan Habibi will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Frank Martinez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Ghassan Habibi!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Martinez shoots for a takedown but Habibi saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Habibi tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Martinez swivels and escapes.
It looked like Martinez was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
The fight stays on the outside here - Habibi looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Martinez moves into the clinch.
Habibi wants to stall.

Martinez has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Habibi uses from the top position.

Martinez looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Martinez is working an open guard so Habibi takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Martinez looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Martinez throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Habibi displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Martinez.

Habibi tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Martinez defends well and Habibi ends up having to push Martinez into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Martinez manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Habibi on his heels. He'll look to pass Habibi's guard now, I'm sure.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

As Habibi looks to move away, Martinez throws a big counter combo but Habibi just gets out of the way.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Martinez tries to free his leg and advance position but Habibi is retaining full guard.
Martinez wants to stand and escape but instead Habibi has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.


Martinez working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Habibi doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Habibi manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Habibi stays in close to Martinez's body and controls the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Habibi is pushing down on Martinez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Martinez is fighting to maintain full guard but Habibi has managed to sneak the leg through.

Habibi tries to sprawl but Martinez drives through with a takedown into half guard.

Martinez wants to work for an arm triangle but Habibi is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

Habibi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Martinez's guard.

Habibi slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Habibi is looking to take a break and control but Martinez is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Habibi might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Martinez haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Martinez tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Habibi wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Habibi tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Habibi wants to lay and pray for a moment but Martinez keeps working.

Habibi decides to stand back up. Habibi steps back and let's Martinez get back to his feet.
Martinez shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Habibi cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Habibi dives in and grabs Martinez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Martinez pushes down on Habibi's head and hops out.
Frank Martinez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Martinez slaps away a takedown attempt from Habibi, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Martinez wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Martinez swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Habibi shoots in for a double leg but Martinez sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Frank Martinez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ghassan Habibi.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Martinez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

A close second round but Ghassan Habibi will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Habibi wants to take a breather but Martinez is having none of it.
Martinez wants to improve his position but Habibi is controlling well.
Habibi seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Martinez does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Martinez is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
Martinez is bucking up trying to escape but Habibi cracks him with another couple of good strikes.

Martinez's corner are shouting for him to stand up but that's bad cornering - how is he meant to stand up when he's mounted? He should be looking to improve his position on the ground before trying to stand back up.

Martinez is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Habibi is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Martinez has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Martinez tries to lock up and control but Habibi gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Habibi tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Habibi pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Habibi can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Martinez is looking to escape.
Ghassan Habibi has got the better of the ground game so far.

Ghassan Habibi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Habibi has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
