PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Allan Becker (ranked 8300 p4p, 0 weight class) and Eric Carlsson (ranked 5817 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Carlsson's choice of entrance music: Time. The key to victory for Allan Becker has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Allan Becker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Eric Carlsson!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Matti Vanhoillinen and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Becker misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Becker throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Carlsson's waist but Carlsson gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Becker off to one side.
Carlsson looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
Becker throws a right and a left that both miss.
It seemed like Carlsson was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Becker throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Carlsson let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.

Carlsson shoots in and bounces Becker off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Carlsson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Carlsson postures up in Becker's guard and throws a big left but Becker blocks it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Becker is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Becker utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Carlsson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Becker lands a high kick!
Becker tries to bum rush Carlsson with a series of wild strikes but Carlsson uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Allan Becker seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carlsson avoids a punch combination nicely.

Carlsson drives through and clinches with Becker against the cage.

Carlsson lands a takedown into guard.
Becker will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Carlsson feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Eric Carlsson will probably get the nod.
That's time! Becker's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Carlsson is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Becker can't fight it off and eventually Carlsson manages to take the fight to the floor. Becker looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Becker escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Carlsson gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Carlsson is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Becker is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Carlsson postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Becker has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Carlsson off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Becker's corner calls for a 1, 2 combination and Becker duly obliges.
No joy there for Becker, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Nice takedown defense from Carlsson. No joy for Becker on that attempt.

That was a close second round but I would say that Allan Becker will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!


Becker shoots in looking for a takedown but Carlsson manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Becker's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

Becker stalks Carlsson and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Carlsson's face. Carlsson staggers backwards, shaken.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Becker enables Carlsson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Becker manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Carlsson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Let's hope that Carlsson has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
