PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Hugo Wolf (ranked 5422 p4p, 441 weight class) and Rock Machine (ranked 4076 p4p, 360 weight class). Machine has chosen Hell Yeah as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 29 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Hugo Wolf!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 22 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Rock Machine!
The judges for this bout are Frank Dennis, Gwen Towbar and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Machine missing with a left hand there. Wolf was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Machine will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Wolf shoots in but Machine avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Machine clinches up against the cage.
Wolf jumps guard but Machine turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Machine misses with a knee strike.
The referee is keeping an eye on Wolf - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Machine gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Wolf.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugo Wolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Wolf drops down looking for an ankle pick but Machine pulls his leg out and moves away.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Machine lands with an overhand left.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Wolf.
Wolf shoots for a takedown but Machine saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Machine! But no joy.
Machine throws a combination. Wolf tries to block but a couple of punches get through.
Machine connects with a crisp jab.

Machine changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Wolf looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Machine lands a decent elbow from side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Machine wants to lay and pray for a moment but Wolf keeps working.
You can see the frustration on Wolf's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Machine throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Machine thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Wolf's head.

Machine lands an elbow that was bordering on illegal but the referee lets it go with a warning.

Machine can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Wolf is looking to escape.

Machine keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Wolf changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Machine tries to avoid it but Wolf manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Machine to the ground. Machine escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Machine connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Machine cracks Wolf with a right hand to the side of the head.
Machine misses with the combination.
Machine looks to clinch

and Wolf counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Machine has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Machine holds on and takes a little breather.

Wolf throws a big right hand that misses.

Machine utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Machine is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Machine has his foot on Wolf's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Wolf works his way back into a safe position though.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Wolf accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Machine manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Wolf manages to get himself to full guard.

That was a close second round but I would say that Hugo Wolf will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Machine manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Wolf on his heels. He'll look to pass Wolf's guard now, I'm sure.

Machine is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Machine fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Wolf chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Machine can pounce on him.

Wolf walks into a left hand.
Wolf misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Machine lands a leg kick. The shin dug right into the meat of the thigh.
Machine throws a front kick that sends Wolf stumbling back into the cage.
Machine has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Machine throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

Wolf closes the distance and clinches.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Wolf has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Machine is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Machine tries to break free but Wolf pushes him back against the cage.
Machine landing some nice looking knees to the body.
Machine looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Wolf is trying to drag Machine to the mat but Machine just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Hugo Wolf. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Machine breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Rock Machine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Machine has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
