PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Carlton Lassiter (ranked 1729 p4p, 180 weight class) and Froyo Hoyo (ranked 2430 p4p, 250 weight class). Hoyo is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Bad to the bone. Froyo Hoyo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Roger Salmon and Josh West.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lassiter changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hoyo tries to avoid it but Lassiter manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hoyo to the ground. Hoyo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Hoyo is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Lassiter.
Lassiter changes levels looking for a counter takedown but doesn't commit.
Lassiter takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Lassiter throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Hoyo throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Lassiter feinted with a counter takedown.
Lassiter shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Hoyo counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hoyo staying out of range there.
Lassiter tries for a takedown but Hoyo sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
And an attempted straight right on the counter from Hoyo! But no joy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Carlton Lassiter. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hoyo swings for the body but Lassiter moves out of range.
Froyo Hoyo is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

and Lassiter counters with a shoot takedown. Hoyo fights it but they end up in guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The strikes coming from Lassiter are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Hoyo is looking to regain half guard here but Lassiter keeps moving and retains side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hoyo can do anything to dispel that myth.

Hoyo wants to control but Lassiter postures up.
Hoyo tries to bench press Lassiter off him but Lassiter keeps the position.
Lassiter postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
Hoyo is trying to escape the position but Lassiter is controlling the position.
Lassiter misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Lassiter controls the position.
Lassiter lands a few punches from side control.
Lassiter is working Hoyo over with some ground and pound from side control.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lassiter has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Lassiter content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Hoyo tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Lassiter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Lassiter fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Lassiter lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Lassiter pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Lassiter lands a big shot there that rocks Hoyo but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Hoyo is in a horrible position here. Lassiter smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Hoyo takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Lassiter's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
