Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

With a record of 9 - 7 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Mike Rutherford!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, David Hoff and Michael Johnstone.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Thud! ouch! good body kick from Rutherford - that will leave a mark!
Rutherford slips a jab from Chan.
Rutherford feints a counter leg kick.
Chan throws an overhand right that lands on Rutherford's shoulder, as Rutherford tries to avoid the shot.
Rutherford feints the counter takedown.
Chan scores with a nice head shot.
The fighters circling - Chan throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Chan tests Rutherford's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Rutherford throws the kick towards the body but Chan avoids it.
Chan is looking to counter punch.

and Rutherford counters with an inside leg kick.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Rutherford has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.

and Rutherford counters with a single leg into guard. Chan didn't expect that.

Rutherford drops back looking for a leg! Chan is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Chan manages to kick Rutherford off! Rutherford jumps back into Chan's guard.

Rutherford is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Chan is surviving well by controlling Rutherford's body position as best he can.

Rutherford wants to finish this one by submission but Chan is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Rutherford.

Rutherford is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Chan to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Chan shrugs it off.

Rutherford with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
Chan is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Rutherford has control of Chan's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chan regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Rutherford looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mike Rutherford dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Chan throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Rutherford stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Rutherford has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rutherford tries to clinch but Chan is having none of it.
Chan throws a lazy right hand but Rutherford sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
A jab lands there for Chan.
Chan misses with an uppercut. Rutherford saw that one coming.
Chan moves out of range of the leg kick from Rutherford.

Rutherford closes the distance and clinches.
Rutherford jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Chan walks away with a smile on his face. Rutherford gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Rutherford throws a sloppy head kick and Chan moves out of range easily.
Rutherford uses good head movement to avoid the hook from Chan.
Chan misses with an uppercut.
Chan throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Rutherford sees it coming and avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chan misses with a straight left.

Oooooh!!! Chan has knocked Rutherford down with a huge combo! Chan steps away and waves a wobbly Rutherford back to his feet! This one might not go much longer!


Rutherford is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Crack! Chan connects with the perfect overhand right and Rutherford falls face first to the canvas. Timbeeeeeeeer! Beautiful knockout for Chan!
