Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Juho Pennanen!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Ivan Kalishevski!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Vladimir Khabensky and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kalishevski throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Kalishevski fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Kalishevski stuffs the takedown attempt from Pennanen. Pennanen gets slowly back to his feet.
Pennanen tries for a takedown but Kalishevski sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Kalishevski throws the kick towards the body but Pennanen avoids it.
A head kick misses from Kalishevski.
Pennanen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Juho Pennanen. That's going to take a lot out of him.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It looks like Juho Pennanen has been cut.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Pennanen wants to control but Kalishevski is having none of it.
Pennanen is trying desperately to improve position.
Pennanen reaches up to try and control the position but Kalishevski seems to have an arm triangle now! Uh oh! Pennanen rolls and tries to escape and now Kalishevski has his back!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Pennanen tries to keep at a distance but Kalishevski has taken the fight into the clinch.

Kalishevski lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.
Kalishevski comes over the top with an elbow. That landed flush.

Kalishevski's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Pennanen drives through with a takedown into guard.

Pennanen is really struggling to control Kalishevski but he's trying to hold on to the position.

Pennanen is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Kalishevski is just riding it out for now. Pennanen eventually gives up the hold.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Pennanen shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Kalishevski pinned against the cage. Kalishevski gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Pennanen throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Pennanen will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ivan Kalishevski seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Pennanen thows a huge punch but Kalishevski dodges it nicely.

Pennanen shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Kalishevski's guard.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Kalishevski really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Pennanen. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Kalishevski is trying to escape the position but Pennanen is controlling the position.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Pennanen sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kalishevski throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Pennanen uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Kalishevski.

Pennanen changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kalishevski looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pennanen frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Kalishevski wants to control but Pennanen is having none of it.
Pennanen sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!

Pennanen has hold of Kalishevski's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Kalishevski manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Pennanen has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Kalishevski bucks up and throws Pennanen to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!

Kalishevski throws a wild body kick that Pennanen sees coming a mile off.
Pennanen circles away from the clinch attempt.

Pennanen scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Pennanen is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Kalishevski is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Pennanen is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Kalishevski knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Pennanen thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Pennanen thows a big elbow that misses, also allowing Kalishevski to regain full guard.

Kalishevski working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Pennanen doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Pennanen manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
