The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Silva looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Mendez is fending him off so far but Silva persists. Nope, Mendez circles away and we're back to standing.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Mendez.

With the fighters clinched against the cage, Mendez creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Mendez scores with a nice one two combo and darts back out of range to avoid anything coming in the opposite direction.

Dan Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Silva but Silva pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Silva has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Mendez regains guard immediately.

Silva is looking to defend but Mendez has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Silva! Mendez pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Silva taps out and this one is all over!
