PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Chinatown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Romolo Barros (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chinatown comes into the arena with Cocaine in my brain - Dillinger blaring out of the sound system. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Charlie Chinatown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Romolo Barros!
The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Ren Mimura and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barros displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Chinatown throws out the jab.
Barros looks for a takedown but Chinatown sprawls well.
Chinatown misses with a looping left.

Chinatown gets caught flat footed, as Barros shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Chinatown wants to sweep here but Barros controlling him for the moment.

Barros drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Barros jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Chinatown throws a body punch but Barros moves out of range.

Chinatown closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Chinatown trying to control but Barros is having none of it.
Barros tries to lock up and control but Chinatown gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Barros is looking to improve his position but Chinatown isn't that keen on the idea.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chinatown throws a looping overhand right but Barros ducks down to avoid it.
Chinatown works Barros's body with a nice hook.
Barros moves out of range of the strikes.

Barros shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Barros was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Barros trying to control but Chinatown is having none of it.

Barros has control of Chinatown's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chinatown regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Barros is breathing heavily.

Barros jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Chinatown is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Chinatown and Barros has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Barros goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Chinatown has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Barros but great work by Chinatown.

Barros closes this distance looking for a takedown but Chinatown circles away.
Chinatown lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Chinatown throws a right hand that Barros ducks under and follows up with a left that Barros also avoids with ease.
Chinatown throws the left hand but Barros avoids the punch easily.
Charlie Chinatown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Chinatown throws a shot from downtown. Barros moves away and avoids it.
Chinatown loads up on a big right hand but Barros slips the punch.
Chinatown just misses with a punch to the body.

Barros shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Chinatown's guard.

Barros drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Chinatown dives on top into guard.
Chinatown is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Chinatown has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Barros throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Chinatown escapes and throws Barros's legs to the side, diving into side control!

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Chinatown gets his hands free as Barros looks to control.
Barros manages to reverse the position and now he's in Chinatown's guard. Nice work there by Barros.

Barros is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Chinatown is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Chinatown has escaped and now he's on top!

Barros is looking for a triangle but Chinatown pushes his legs off easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Chinatown wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Chinatown looks to land a right hand but Barros moved out of range.
Chinatown is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Barros.
Chinatown misses with a hook. Barros ducked under it nicely.

Barros bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.

Barros tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Chinatown manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Chinatown knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Barros on the ground.

Chinatown stands up and beckons Barros to his feet.
The fighters circling - Chinatown throws out the jab but it was never going to land.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Chinatown lands a nice shot that snaps Barros's head back.
Chinatown misses with a hook.
Chinatown throws a big shot that misses.

A left lands for Chinatown.
Barros will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Chinatown throws the left hand but Barros avoids the punch easily.
Chinatown loads up on a big right hand but Barros slips the punch.

Charlie Chinatown has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Romolo Barros.
The fight stays on the outside here - Chinatown looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Barros shoots in for a takedown but Chinatown shows good takedown defense.
Barros changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Chinatown tries to avoid it but Barros manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Chinatown to the ground. Chinatown escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Chinatown throws a lazy right hand but Barros sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.
Chinatown slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Barros shoots in but no luck this time.

Barros closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Barros thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Barros laying and praying for a moment but Chinatown takes advantage and regains half guard.

Barros looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Barros is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Chinatown as he works his way to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Barros looking to sit in guard and control but Chinatown gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Barros had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Chinatown is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Barros Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Chinatown's back instead.

And that's the end of the fight!
Charlie Chinatown showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Chinatown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
