Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David Page (ranked 25205 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brandon Ruane (ranked 8251 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the prize buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, David Page!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brandon Ruane!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, William Peck and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Page closes the distance and clinches up with Ruane, looking for a takedown. Page pushes Ruane against the cage but Ruane circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Page gets caught napping as Ruane dives in and scores a takedown. Page manages to retain guard.
Ruane looking to sit in guard and control but Page gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.


Page avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Ruane trying to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ruane tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Page is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Page engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Page scoring with punches to the head and body.
Page postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Page's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ruane is trying to control the position but Page postures up.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Page is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ruane dives in and scores a takedown into Page's guard.
Ruane looks winded!
Page pulls Ruane in close to prevent any damage.
Page continues to stall.
Page's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Ruane wants to get up but he can't break Page's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Page stays in close to Ruane's body and controls the position.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Page seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Ruane for as long as he can get away with.
Page really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Page has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Ruane tries to clinch there but Page circles away.
It looked like Page wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ruane scores with a jab to the body.

A close round but Brandon Ruane will probably get the nod.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.


Page shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Ruane as he avoids it easily.
Page sets himself, and Ruane steps forward looking for the clinch! Page avoids it this time.
Page shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Ruane sprawls well. Ruane wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Page gets slowly back to his feet.
Page shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Ruane as he jumps to the side.

Page is trying hard to land a takedown here. Ruane sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Ruane is trying to ground and pound but Page uses the momentary lack of control by Ruane to regain half guard.

Ruane is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Page defends it well.

Ruane is trying to control the action in half guard but Page is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Page is staying active underneath Ruane, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Page controlling the leg, holding on to half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Page shoots in for a double leg but Ruane sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
As Page backs off Ruane throws a huge counter combo but Page manages to avoid it all.

Brandon Ruane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Page looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Ruane is fending him off so far but Page persists. Nope, Ruane circles away and we're back to standing.

Ruane closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Page quickly recovers to half guard.
Page wants to control but Ruane is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Page keeping hold of Ruane's head, controlling as best he can.

Ruane stands up out of the half guard.

Page shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Ruane manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ruane wants to control the position but Page says "no thanks buddy" and passes to half guard.
Page slows the pace down in half guard.
Ruane is trying to stand up here but Page is controlling him well.

Ruane wants to control but Page is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Page seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Ruane tries to roll over but Page keeps him under control.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Horrible takedown attempt by Page or perhaps it was just good defense by Ruane, which made it look bad.
Ruane changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.

Brandon Ruane showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

No luck for Page with that takedown attempt.
Page dives in and grabs Ruane's left leg, looking for a takedown. Ruane pushes down on Page's head and hops out.
And Ruane tries to counter it with a takedown but Page pushes his down on his head and steps out.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Ruane keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Ruane shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Ruane is looking for a kimura but Page is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Ruane to get the leverage.

Ruane has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Page has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Well Ruane has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
