PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Frankie Edgar (ranked 1739 p4p, 174 weight class) and Chris Karter (ranked 1599 p4p, 164 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Chris Karter was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 10 - 1, fighting out of Sydney, Frankie Edgar!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 9 - 2, fighting out of New York, Chris Karter!
The judges for this bout are Elvis Blanc, Yves DeLean and Robert Douchet.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Karter missing with a left hand there. Edgar was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Edgar swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Karter.
Karter ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Edgar moves away.
Edgar waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Karter.
Karter with the counter takedown but Edgar avoids it easily.
Karter avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

It looks like Frankie Edgar has been cut.

Karter slips a jab and a cross from Edgar.
Karter takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.

Karter forces Edgar back against the cage and clinches.

Karter lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.

Edgar is fighting off a takedown attempt but Karter is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Edgar to the mat. Edgar regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Karter is working Edgar over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Edgar is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Edgar thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Karter's head.

Karter looking for submissions from an awkward position here.

Edgar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
Karter has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.
Edgar has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Karter makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Karter.

Edgar wants to get up but he can't break Karter's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Karter is staying active underneath Edgar, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Karter wants to control but Edgar is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Edgar seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Karter moves into full guard.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Karter holds on and takes a little breather.

Edgar throws a strike but Karter rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.


Edgar has an active guard here but Karter has managed to pass into half guard.
Edgar has hold of Karter's hands but Karter slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Karter takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Karter seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Edgar does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Frankie Edgar will probably get the nod.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Edgar comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.

Karter clobbers Edgar with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.

Oh Edgar is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Edgar sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Edgar seems to have got his legs back now.
Edgar wants to land a leg kick but Karter is out of range.

and Karter counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Karter pounces like a tiger and cracks Edgar with a vicious hook! Edgar is down but not out! Karter follows up with more strikes forcing the ref to jump in and stop it!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:11 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Chris Karter!
Chris Karter made sure to give a little speech post fight, saying 'I piss excellence! Open your mouth Harris and drink my excellence. I want Brophy.'.
