Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Royce Gracie (ranked 919 p4p, 129 weight class) and Dick Mahoney (ranked 2974 p4p, 386 weight class). Gracie's ring entrance music is that housewives' favourite, Jiu Jitsu by Smoke Serpent. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mahoney misses with a wild body shot.
Gracie bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gracie tries to counter by clinching up but Mahoney breaks away and moves out of range.

Gracie shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Gracie is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gracie stalling.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gracie slips a nice elbow through Mahoney's hands, connecting with Mahoney's forehead.

Gracie seems to be working for a kimura but Mahoney defends the submission attempt.
Mahoney really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gracie. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Gracie is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Mahoney is just riding it out for now. Gracie eventually gives up the hold.

Gracie lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Mahoney can do anything to dispel that myth.
