PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Uriah Heath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Seamus OShaughnessy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Heath might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Asche zu Asche. The crowd seem to be enjoying OShaughnessy's choice of entrance music: Black Friday Rule by Flogging Molly. I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Uriah Heath!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Seamus OShaughnessy!
The judges for this bout are Tiny Johnson, Frank Dennis and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
OShaughnessy fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Seamus OShaughnessy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Heath shoots in but OShaughnessy avoids the takedown attempt easily.
OShaughnessy tries for a takedown but Heath circles away easily
and Heath counters with a series of strikes. OShaughnessy will be more careful next time no doubt.
Ooooh, nice body kick lands from Heath. OShaughnessy shrugs it off though.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Heath.

and OShaughnessy counters with a shoot takedown. Heath fights it but they end up in guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Uriah Heath. That's going to take a lot out of him.

OShaughnessy has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Heath has his foot on OShaughnessy's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. OShaughnessy works his way back into a safe position though.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as OShaughnessy accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
OShaughnessy is looking to work some ground and pound but Heath has wrist control.

Heath escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. OShaughnessy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Heath wants to sweep but no luck.
OShaughnessy postures up and lands a big shot to Heath's brow.
Heath will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells OShaughnessy's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
OShaughnessy trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.

OShaughnessy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Heath, up you get!
OShaughnessy has his takedown stuffed

and Heath counters with a single leg into guard. OShaughnessy didn't expect that.
OShaughnessy bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Heath's guard.
OShaughnessy working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

OShaughnessy seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

OShaughnessy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
OShaughnessy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
OShaughnessy stuns Heath with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
OShaughnessy misses with a takedown attempt - Heath sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

OShaughnessy feints and as Heath raises his hands in defense, OShaughnessy changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
OShaughnessy looks gassed!
Heath tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Heath escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. OShaughnessy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

OShaughnessy has gone for a leg lock! Heath slips out almost immediately though and dives into OShaughnessy's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Heath accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Heath is looking to work some ground and pound but OShaughnessy has wrist control.
OShaughnessy tries to strike from the bottom.
Heath postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Heath wants to stand but OShaughnessy is controlling his posture from full guard.
OShaughnessy manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Heath manages to get himself to full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
OShaughnessy wants to pass the guard but Heath is keeping the position.
Heath utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
OShaughnessy working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Heath scrambles and gets back to his feet.
OShaughnessy shoots and misses

and Heath counters by clinching up.
OShaughnessy can't break the clinch.
OShaughnessy prevents the takedown attempt.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
OShaughnessy wants to break free but Heath has control.

Heath has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics OShaughnessy uses from the top position.
Heath seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Heath wants to get back to his feet but OShaughnessy is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Uriah Heath will probably get the nod.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

Heath turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
OShaughnessy wants to get back to his feet but Heath drags him back down.
OShaughnessy is looking to regain half guard here but Heath keeps moving and retains side control.
Heath takes a little break here. OShaughnessy wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
OShaughnessy is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Heath off and has taken his back!

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

OShaughnessy lands a shot to the head.
OShaughnessy lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.
OShaughnessy tries to keep control of the position but Heath is staying busy.
OShaughnessy connects with a series of strikes and the referee is calling for Heath to escape the position.
Seamus OShaughnessy has got the better of the ground game so far.

I really don't envy Heath right now.
Heath is working hard here to advance position.

Heath wants to get back to his feet.

OShaughnessy looking to break Heath's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Heath remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise OShaughnessy will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

OShaughnessy is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Heath knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Heath for a finish.

Heath really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

OShaughnessy is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Heath is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Heath flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. OShaughnessy anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Heath and secures both hooks! This could be bad! OShaughnessy slips an arm under Heath chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. OShaughnessy has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. OShaughnessy is squeezing on Heath like an anaconda would it's prey. Heath fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Seamus OShaughnessy!
