The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pires lands with a nice combination. Madden backs away looking to recover.
Pires fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Madden attempts a counter takedown but Pires avoids it well and moves away.
Madden wants to clinch.

Madden decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Pires tries to push off, looking to stand up, but Madden manages to move to mount!

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Pires is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Madden wants to control the pace but Pires is squirming around nicely.

Pires is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That was a close second round but I would say that Truman Madden will probably get the nod.

Pires changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Madden looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Madden explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!

Pires throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Madden is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Pires is defending well for now.

Pires drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Pires jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Pires seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
