PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mark Kerr (ranked 827 p4p, 100 weight class) and Haider Ali (ranked 2286 p4p, 280 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Mark Kerr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Haider Ali!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Ben Zyskovitsi and Anni Minnemäki.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kerr has closed the distance and engaged Ali in a clinch.
Ali tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Kerr's elbow.
Ali fails to land with a short punch on the inside.
Kerr misses with the head strike.
Kerr has Ali pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Ali manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Ali lands a left hand.
Ali misses with a punch on the inside.

Kerr has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Ali regains guard immediately.
Kerr seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Kerr working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ali has his hands on Kerr's head, controlling the position.

Ali pulls Kerr in close to prevent any damage.

Ali is continuing to stall.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Kerr accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kerr slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Kerr throws a big right hand that misses.
Kerr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Ali works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Ali looking for a sweep. Not yet Ali, not yet.
Ali is looking to stand up but Kerr isn't so interested in that idea.
Kerr has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Kerr is looking to work some ground and pound but Ali has wrist control.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kerr looking to sit in guard and control but Ali gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Kerr is pressing down on Ali's thigh, looking to free his foot. Ali is holding on for now.

Kerr slips a nice elbow through Ali's hands, connecting with Ali's forehead.
Ali is not content to let Kerr control the position.
Ali keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Kerr thows a huge punch but Ali dodges it nicely.

Ali is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Kerr scores with a couple of nice shots.

Kerr thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Ali's head.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Kerr throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Ali on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Ali swings wildly with an uppercut but Kerr uses good head movement to avoid it.

Ali is pressed up against the cage. Kerr has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Ali down to the mat. Ali avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Ali throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.

A telegraphed right hand from Ali misses the target.
It looked like Kerr wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Ali tries a head kick but it misses.
Kerr swings for the body but Ali moves out of range.
Ali ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Ali bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.

Ali throws a good cross that connects.
Ali connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Ali misses with a body shot.
Kerr wants to clinch
letting Ali counter with a right hand.
Ali pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Ali slaps away a takedown attempt from Kerr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Kerr thuds his right hand into Ali's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Kerr misses with a left hand
and Ali counters with a left to the body.
Kerr stuns Ali with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Ali cracks the inside of Kerr's front leg.
Ali has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

A punch lands to the side of Ali 's head but he takes it in his stride.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ali takes one on the button.

Kerr forces Ali back against the cage and clinches.
Kerr lands with a light punch inside.
A bit of stalling here from Ali.
Kerr misses with a punch to the body.
Ali lands a body punch.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Kerr.
Ali swings away with an uppercut that misses.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.
Ali is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Ali seems frustrated at his inability to get double underhooks.

Haider Ali seems to be working more effectively in the clinch in the fight so far.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Kerr is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Ali gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Kerr changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Ali fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Ali with poor footwork there. He got himself in a bit of a tangle, enabling Kerr to score with a decent uppercut.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Ali digs a right hand underneath Kerr's ribcage. Kerr let out a lung full of air as it connected.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Ali just leaning against Kerr, taking a breather.

Ali has been looking to improve his clinch game in recent weeks. Kerr seems to have the measure of him in the clinch so far, so let's see if Ali can turn it around.
Kerr tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Mark Kerr showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Kerr has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
