PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Olen Sargent (ranked 7750 p4p, 0 weight class) and Henry Belenger (ranked 6165 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Olen Sargent!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Henry Belenger!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, James Ackerman and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Belenger lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Sargent circles away quickly and effectively.

Sargent gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Sargent wants to take the fight to the mat but Belenger manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.

Sargent successfully pulls guard.
Belenger working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Sargent's head.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Sargent is on top in guard.

Sargent throwing strikes but missing.
Sargent chips away with some ground and pound.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sargent throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Sargent throws a big right hand that misses.
Sargent really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Sargent is working Belenger over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Belenger throws some sloppy strikes off his back.

Belenger escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Sargent gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Sargent working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Sargent is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Sargent's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Sargent won't allow Belenger to get back to his feet.

Sargent throws a big right hand that misses.
Sargent content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Sargent distracts Belenger with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Belenger utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Sargent accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Belenger pulls Sargent in close to prevent any damage.
Belenger bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sargent's guard.

Belenger tries to free his leg and advance position but Sargent is retaining full guard.

Belenger wants to control from the top but Sargent keeps moving.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Belenger wants to stand but Sargent is controlling his posture from full guard.
Sargent is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Sargent has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sargent tries to keep at a distance but Belenger has taken the fight into the clinch.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Belenger lands a takedown into guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Belenger stands and throws Sargent's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Sargent wants to control but Belenger postures up.
Belenger wants to stand but Sargent is controlling his arm.
Belenger controls the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sargent tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That was a close round but I would say that Olen Sargent will probably get the nod.

Belenger shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sargent manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Sargent is wriggling around but Belenger manages to pass to half guard.

Belenger seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Sargent does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Belenger wants to stand up but Sargent is controlling the position.

Belenger wants to take a breather but Sargent is having none of it.

Belenger trying to control from Sargent's half guard. Sargent has other ideas though and has regained full guard.

Belenger is fighting to break Sargent's control of his arms but Sargent is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Belenger is looking to stand back up but Sargent counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Belenger.

Belenger is defending against the submission attempts here by Sargent.

Sargent is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Sargent is looking for a kimura but Belenger is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Sargent to get the leverage.

Olen Sargent overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Belenger had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Sargent defends it easily.
Belenger is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Belenger gets the takedown into side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sargent is not content to let Belenger control the position.

Belenger decides to stand up, so the ref orders Sargent to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Belenger showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!



Belenger fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Sargent sprawls well initially but Belenger persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Sargent pushes Belenger off and gets back to his feet.

Sargent wants to hit a switch here but Belenger passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Sargent there!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Sargent tries to lock up and control but Belenger gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Sargent is trying desperately to improve position.
Sargent gets back to half guard.
Sargent won't allow Belenger to pass to mount.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Belenger throwing shots but Sargent is blocking nicely.
Belenger controlling the action here.
Belenger is continuing to stall.
Sargent keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Belenger is looking to advance position but Sargent won't allow it.

Sargent moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Belenger must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Sargent is working an open guard so Belenger takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Belenger misses with a head kick.

Belenger darts in and clinches Sargent up against the cage.

Henry Belenger comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Belenger has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
