PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Mitchell Orr (ranked 6175 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mirko Simic (ranked 8543 p4p, 0 weight class). Simic has chosen Beat it as his entrance music. The key to victory for Mitchell Orr has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mitchell Orr!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mirko Simic!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Paulo Santos and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight.

Orr darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Orr not throwing his punches with enough precision this time.
Simic desperately trying to maintain half guard.
Simic is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The fighters are battling for position here. Simic manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Orr would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Simic wants to sweep here but Orr controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orr throwing strikes from guard but Simic blocks nicely.
Simic pulls Orr in to control the position.
Orr could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Simic is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Orr is aware though and is defending well.
Orr loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Orr with a nice head shot there.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Simic can do anything to dispel that myth.

Orr throws a big elbow that misses.
Simic is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Orr working some strikes from top position.
Simic tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Orr missing there with some ground and pound from the guard.
Simic has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.
Orr is in close to Simic's body, working some short punches and elbows.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Simic wants to sweep but no luck.
Orr throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Simic works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Orr throws an elbow that misses. Simic uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Orr's guard. Nice move by Simic!

Simic content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Simic is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Orr might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Simic wants to pass the guard but Orr is keeping the position.
Simic prevents Orr from getting back to his feet.
Simic wants to pass the guard but Orr is keeping the position.
Simic trying to control but Orr is working from the bottom.
Simic trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Simic postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Orr is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Simic, into his guard.

Orr is fighting to break Simic's control of his arms but Simic is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Orr won't allow Simic to sweep him here.
Orr postures up in Simic's guard and throws a big left but Simic blocks it.
Simic looking for a sweep. Not yet Simic, not yet.
Orr connects with a couple of short punches.
Simic bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Orr's guard.

Simic wants to pass the guard but Orr is keeping the position.

Simic drops back looking for a leg! Orr is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Orr manages to kick Simic off! Simic jumps back into Orr's guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Simic stands up over Orr, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Simic trying to control the position from guard on top but Orr is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Simic loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Orr wants to stand up but Simic is controlling him.
Simic is working Orr over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Simic in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Simic trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Orr is breathing heavily.
Simic looking to sit in guard and control but Orr gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mitchell Orr will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


No luck for Orr with that takedown attempt.
Simic changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt.
Orr tries to clinch but fails miserably

and Simic counters with a nice double leg into side control. Orr won't be happy with that.
Simic tries to advance to mount but can't.

Simic swings around for an armbar but Orr sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Simic's guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Orr is fighting to break Simic's control of his arms but Simic is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Orr has a momentary lapse of concentration, allowing Simic to throw up a leg and lock on what appears to be a pretty tight triangle! Orr is fighting it off but it's all too little too late - Simic pulls down on the head and he's put Orr to sleep! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mirko Simic!
During a confident post fight interview, Mirko Simic thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
