Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brando Reigns (ranked 1227 p4p, 123 weight class) and Ao Ki (ranked 2095 p4p, 207 weight class). Reigns's entrance music is Tragedy. A fine choice. Brando Reigns could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to Ao Ki's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Brando Reigns!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ao Ki!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Patrick Alders and Saam Ante.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ki pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Ki fails with an attempt to clinch.
A counter left hand to the body from Reigns misses its target.
Reigns cracks Ki with a nice right hand that draws applause from the crowd.
Reigns circles away from the clinch attempt.
Ki tries to clinch
and Reigns connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Ki has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.
Reigns moves out of range of the body kick from Ki.

Ki closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Ki is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Reigns will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
Reigns is not content to let Ki control the position.
You can see the frustration on Reigns's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Ki is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Reigns is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Ki tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ki has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Reigns manages to get back to half guard.
Reigns is staying active underneath Ki, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Ki wants to work for an arm triangle but Reigns is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Ki is trying to control. Reigns wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
Reigns tries to get to full guard but Ki has control of the leg.

Reigns actively working from the bottom here.
Ki is pressing down on Reigns's thigh, looking to free his foot. Reigns is holding on for now.
Ki is keen to just control but Reigns is a slippery customer.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

Ki has a takedown stuffed.
Reigns was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Reigns thuds a left hand into Ki's body.
Ki tries to clinch there but Reigns circles away.
Reigns was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Ki throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
A counter left hand to the body from Reigns misses its target.
A slapping leg kick lands for Ki.
Ao Ki seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Reigns lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Ki shoots in for a takedown but Reigns shows good takedown defense.
Reigns goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Ki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Reigns misses with a low kick.
Ki is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.

Ki shoots and misses
and Reigns counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Brando Reigns has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Ao Ki.
Ki lands a head kick!
Ki scores with a head kick. Reigns tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
Brando Reigns is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Reigns checks the leg kick.
It looked like Reigns wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Crunch! Ki slams his shin into Reigns's torso.
Reigns avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Ki throws a leg kick
and Reigns counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Ki.
Reigns delivers a nice body kick.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Brando Reigns will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Ki doesn't manage to clinch there - Reigns circles away.
Reigns moves out of range of the leg kick from Ki.
Ki is looking to clinch.
Reigns takes a kick to the side of the head.
Ki pulls out of a head kick attempt.

Ki closes the distance and clinches.
Reigns throws a hook to the body. More of an arm punch but it's all scoring with the judges.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Reigns has a couple of punches blocked by Ki.
Ki jumps guard but Reigns turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Reigns gets underhooks to prevent Ki's takedown attempt.

Reigns stalls.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Reigns creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

Ki jumps into guard, dragging Reigns to the mat.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Reigns slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.

Reigns got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ki has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Reigns has managed to get both his arms back between Ki's legs - danger averted.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Reigns is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Reigns showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Ki looking for submissions off his back, moving his hips, looking for an opening.
Reigns not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ki ducks under a wild hook from Reigns.
Ki misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Reigns quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Reigns closes the distance and clinches.
Ki is trying to pull guard but Reigns turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.

Ki is breathing heavily.
Reigns tries to work over Ki's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Reigns lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.

Reigns misses with a punch on the inside.

Reigns misses with a shot to the kidneys.
A short uppercut from Reigns.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Reigns breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Reigns scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Ki doesn't seem bothered though.
Ki dives in and grabs Reigns's left leg, looking for a takedown. Reigns pushes down on Ki's head and hops out.

Reigns drops Ki with a beautiful combination! Ki stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Reigns is looking for the KO!


Ki is rocked!
Ki takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Ki is still on wobbly legs! Can Reigns finish him?
Ki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Reigns.
Reigns throws an overhand right that drops Ki like a sack of potatoes! Reigns dives in to finish the fight with more strikes and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brando Reigns!
Brando Reigns seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website.
