Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between JR Velasquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Scott Morgan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, JR Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Scott Morgan!
The judges for this bout are , Jack Bonds and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Morgan's waist but Morgan gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Velasquez off to one side.
Morgan wants to clinch.
Velasquez moves out of range as Morgan throws a body kick.
An inside leg kick lands from Morgan.
Velasquez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Velasquez keeping his hands up high there, blocking the jab from Morgan.
Velasquez checks the leg kick.

Velasquez pushes Morgan up against the cage in a clinch.
Morgan doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Velasquez blocks a body shot from Morgan.
Velasquez is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Morgan pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for JR Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Morgan is trying to slow down the pace of the fight but Velasquez is keeping busy.

Velasquez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Morgan.

Morgan buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.

Morgan shoots in but Velasquez avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Velasquez wants to stand but Morgan is controlling his posture from full guard.
Morgan wants to sweep but no luck.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Morgan is on top in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Morgan tries to stand but Velasquez is controlling from the bottom.
Morgan throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Velasquez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Velasquez not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Morgan thows a big elbow that misses.
Morgan throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Velasquez is on top in guard.

Morgan is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Velasquez landing some decent shots from guard.
Morgan trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!

Velasquez passes Morgan's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Morgan wants to improve his position but Velasquez is controlling well.
Velasquez drops an elbow to the side of Morgan's head.
Morgan regains full guard. Nicely done.

Morgan is working to avoid the ground and pound but Velasquez connects with a decent elbow.
Velasquez wants to control but Morgan is keeping him busy.
Morgan is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Velasquez off and has taken his back!

A close round but Scott Morgan will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


A nice leg kick lands there from Morgan.
Some wild striking there from Morgan.

Velasquez closes the distance and clinches.

Velasquez breaks from the clinch.
Morgan closes the distance but Velasquez moves to the side

and Velasquez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Morgan wants to stand and escape but Velasquez is having none of it.
Velasquez distracts Morgan with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.

Velasquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Morgan is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Morgan wants to sweep here but Velasquez controlling him for the moment.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Velasquez is pushing down on Morgan's leg trying to pass to half guard. Morgan is fighting to maintain full guard but Velasquez has managed to sneak the leg through.
Velasquez moves into side control, avoiding the strikes from Morgan.

Velasquez stands up.
Scott Morgan seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Velasquez swinging wilding here.
No luck for Morgan with that takedown attempt.
Morgan throws a hook to the side of Velasquez's head but Velasquez sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Morgan tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Velasquez makes him pay by landing a thudding low kick.
Morgan throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Morgan shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Velasquez counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Morgan thinking.
Velasquez tries to clinch but Morgan moves out of range.
Morgan rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Velasquez moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Velasquez scores a takedown into full mount!
Velasquez prevents Morgan from getting the reversal.
Morgan regains half guard.
Velasquez blocks the strikes from Morgan.

Velasquez keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Morgan slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Velasquez is stalling in the full guard.

Velasquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Morgan throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Velasquez counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Morgan's guard now.
Morgan tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Velasquez scoring with punches to the head and body.

Morgan wants to sweep here but Velasquez controlling him for the moment.
Morgan is looking to stand up but Velasquez isn't so interested in that idea.

Morgan isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Velasquez stacks Morgan on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Velasquez!
Morgan is trying to work for a sweep but Velasquez has mounted him!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Morgan takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

JR Velasquez dominated that second round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!



Velasquez feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Morgan is looking to stand up but Velasquez isn't so interested in that idea.

Morgan throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
JR Velasquez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Morgan is striking off his back. Velasquez thinks nothing of it though and passes easily into half guard.

Morgan makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Morgan swats away the attempt to clinch by Velasquez.

Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.
Velasquez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Velasquez gets to his feet. Morgan looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Morgan throws a leg kick that is checked

and Velasquez moves into the clinch.

Morgan manages to break the clinch.
Morgan motions for Velasquez to come forward. Morgan throws a leg kick but it misses it's target.

Velasquez gets a clinch.

Velasquez jumps into guard, dragging Morgan to the mat.

Velasquez will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
Morgan works over Velasquez with some ground and pound from guard.

Velasquez uses the cage to get back to his feet.
A low kick from Morgan misses

and Velasquez counters with a nice double leg into guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Morgan is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Velasquez won't allow Morgan to get back to his feet.

Velasquez scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Velasquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Velasquez lands with a kick to the temple. Morgan shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"
JR Velasquez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Velasquez shoots in for a double leg but Morgan sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Morgan paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button.

and Velasquez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Velasquez drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Velasquez pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Velasquez walks into a stiff left hand from Morgan.
Morgan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Velasquez counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Morgan thuds his right hand into Velasquez's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
Velasquez fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Morgan gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Velasquez decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Morgan's guard.
Velasquez slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Morgan is looking for a sweep.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

JR Velasquez showed his dominance in that final round.
