Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Makoto Abe!
The judges for this bout are Shigeki Sano, Yukihiro Shimada and Hirohito Nitta.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Abe has taken the fight to the clinch.

Abe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Abe wants to stand but Cook is controlling his posture from full guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Cook had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Abe defends it easily.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Abe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Cook moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Abe finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Cook keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Abe tries to bum rush Cook with a series of wild strikes but Cook uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cook looked to counter with a high kick but didn't commit.
Abe throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Cook connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Abe misses with a few strikes there.
Nice defenses there by Cook.

Cook gets caught flat footed, as Abe shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Cook looking to hit a scissor sweep but Abe is one step ahead there.
Abe wants to get up but he can't break Cook's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Cook has his foot on Abe's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Abe works his way back into a safe position though.

Abe got a little sloppy there for a moment and Cook has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Abe has managed to get both his arms back between Cook's legs - danger averted.
Abe not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Abe wants to control from the top but Cook keeps moving.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Makoto Abe dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Cook slips a jab and a cross from Abe.
Cook takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Decent striking displayed by Abe there.


It looks like Michel Cook has been cut.
Abe looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Abe has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Cook takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Abe throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Cook counters with a shoot takedown. Abe fights it but they end up in guard.
Abe looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Cook in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Abe working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Cook.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Abe is on top in guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Abe gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Abe swings widly with a right hand
and Cook counters with a head kick. That will keep Abe thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!
Abe rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Cook counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.
Abe swings away with a body shot that misses

and Cook counters with a single leg into guard. Abe didn't expect that.
Abe is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Cook stops Abe from standing up.
Abe is controlling Cook's posture.
Cook won't allow Abe to get back to his feet.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Cook postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Abe is working an open guard so Cook takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.
Abe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Cook.
Cook shoots in looking for a takedown. Abe tries to sprawl out of it but Cook keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Abe manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Abe misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Abe goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Abe ducks down and throws a hook to the body.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Cook.
Abe connects with a jab and follows up with a big overhand right! Oh that's hurt Cook! He's out on his feet! Abe rushes in and drops Cook with another big right hand, forcing the referee to stop the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:21 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Punches). Makoto Abe!
