Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Terry Johnson (ranked 2869 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Coffey (ranked 21174 p4p, 0 weight class). Johnson comes to the cage accompanied by Hans Zimmer - The Last Samurai Theme. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Terry Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Gary Coffey!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson throws a head kick but Coffey moves out of range.
Coffey throws a poor cross that misses
and Johnson counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Johnson misses with a wild combination.
Coffey lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Coffey misses with a jab, cross combination.
Coffey throws a series of strikes that have Johnson backpedaling.


It looks like Terry Johnson has been cut.
Johnson throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Coffey has taken the fight to the clinch.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
No joy there for Coffey, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Coffey throws a series of punches but Johnson avoids them all with ease.

and Johnson counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've been told by Johnson's head coaches at Heart Cave (8 elites, 4 double-elites, 1 triple) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Johnson lands a nice shot that snaps Coffey's head back.
Coffey tries to close the distance and clinch up but Johnson swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Johnson connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.

It looks like Gary Coffey has been cut.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Coffey walks into a left hand.
Coffey throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
And Johnson counters with a quick kick to the body but Coffey blocks it.
Johnson pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Coffey back to the cage. Johnson follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.

Coffey has managed to clinch.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Johnson lands a good knee to the midsection. Coffey won't want to take too many of those.
Johnson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Coffey is defending well for now.
Johnson is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
The pace slowing considerably in the clinch, as Coffey takes a break from that fighting nonsense to think about the finer things in life.

Johnson is looking to control Coffey's arms but Coffey gets an underhook and turns him. Now Johnson has his back to the cage.
Coffey manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Coffey will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Johnson up against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!

and Johnson connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Coffey takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.

Johnson jabs Coffey right on the nose. Coffey blinks but takes it well.

Coffey scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Coffey seems to be working for a kimura but Johnson defends the submission attempt.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Coffey has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Coffey there as he acknowledges the shot.
Coffey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Johnson moves away.
Coffey loads up on a big right hand but Johnson slips the punch.
Johnson was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.

Coffey is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Johnson will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.

Coffey turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Coffey manages to end up in side control.

Johnson is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Coffey has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Gary Coffey has got the better of the ground game so far.
Coffey is staying tight to Johnson's torso, preventing him from escaping.
Johnson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.
Johnson is letting Coffey control him for a moment.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Johnson avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Coffey.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Johnson throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Coffey on the side of the head.
Coffey sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Johnson works the jab nicely.

And that's the end of the fight!
Terry Johnson showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Johnson has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Terry Johnson decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
