The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Lawson throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Madden was covering up waiting for the punch and Lawson finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Madden not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Lawson won't allow Madden to sweep him here.
Madden keeping moving, preventing Lawson from controlling successfully.
Madden is pulling down on Lawson's head to control his posture.

Lawson avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lawson wants to control from the top but Madden keeps moving.
Lawson must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Lawson seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Madden bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Lawson's guard.

Lawson looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Madden puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.

Lawson is controlling Madden's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Lawson is trying to maintain the position but Madden is very close to passing his half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Well, if Madden is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Lawson is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Lawson is trying desperately to improve position.
Lawson wants to hold on but Madden pushes him away.
Madden tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Madden jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Lawson manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Madden decides to stand up, so the ref orders Lawson to his feet.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Madden gets caught flat footed, as Lawson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Truman Madden dominated that round.

Madden moves into the clinch.

Madden is fighting off a takedown attempt but Lawson is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Madden to the mat. Madden regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Madden is striking but Lawson is not phased and passes to half guard.
Lawson looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Lawson stops Madden from getting back to his feet.
Madden is looking to get full guard. It looks like he might be successful but at the last minute Lawson jumps into side control!
