Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Santos Frederick!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Terrance Shaw!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Shaw drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
You can see the frustration on Frederick's face as Shaw controls the position.
Frederick is looking to reverse the position.
Shaw controls the position.
Frederick tries to buck Shaw off but Shaw is having none of it.
Frederick managing to avoid any damage from the strikes thrown by Shaw.
Frederick is looking to regain half guard here but Shaw keeps moving and retains side control.

Shaw looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Shaw scores with a couple of short elbows.
Shaw has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Frederick is looking for a sweep.

Shaw happy to just control the position for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Frederick sneaks out the side door and pushes Shaw away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Shaw throws a sloppy head kick and Frederick moves out of range easily.
Frederick lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Shaw tries to clinch but Frederick moves out of range.
Frederick seemed to be looking to counter by closing the distance.

Shaw darts in and clinches Frederick up against the cage.
Frederick tries to score a body lock takedown but Shaw shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Shaw tries for a takedown. No joy.
Shaw wants a takedown.

Shaw breaks the clinch.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Frederick lands with a kick to the temple. Shaw shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Shaw drives through and clinches with Frederick against the cage.
Frederick could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Both fighters working to control the clinch.

Frederick pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Frederick has his takedown stuffed

and Shaw counters by clinching up.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Frederick has Shaw pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Frederick pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Shaw tumbling to the mat - Frederick dives into Shaw's guard.

Shaw is looking for a triangle here but Frederick uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Shaw is positioning himself to get back to half guard.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Shaw dodges the ground and pound from Frederick.
Shaw is looking for a sweep.
Shaw struggling a bit here.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Shaw is looking to reverse the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Shaw is trying to get back to half guard. He's pushing on Frederick's leg. He's managed it. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Santos Frederick will probably get the nod.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Frederick shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Shaw fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Frederick to the ground. Shaw is now in Frederick's guard.

Frederick has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Shaw is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.

Shaw looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Frederick passes into half guard.

Frederick wants to take a breather but Shaw is having none of it.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Shaw throws a head kick that misses
and Frederick counters with a three punch combo that has Shaw backing up. Shaw nods at Frederick to acknowledge the strikes.
Shaw takes a swing at Frederick's ribcage but misses.
Shaw stuffs the takedown.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Santos Frederick. That's going to take a lot out of him.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Frederick enables Shaw to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Frederick manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Santos Frederick overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Shaw chips away with some ground and pound.
Frederick bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Shaw's guard.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Shaw is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Frederick won't allow Shaw to get back to his feet.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Santos Frederick dominated that second round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!


Frederick throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Shaw's waist but Shaw gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Frederick off to one side.

Shaw wants a takedown but no success here.

Shaw wants to stand and escape but Frederick is having none of it.
Shaw is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Shaw is trying to control the position but Frederick postures up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Frederick lands a couple of digs.
Shaw working a defensive guard but Frederick manages to pass into side control anyway.

Frederick looking to control but instead Shaw has slipped a leg in, to regain half guard.
Shaw wants to improve his position but Frederick is controlling well.
Shaw is trying to stand.
Shaw trying to get back to full guard but Frederick takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!
Frederick is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Shaw wants to hold on but Frederick pushes him away.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Shaw might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Frederick haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
Shaw can't escape the position.
Shaw wants to control but Frederick is having none of it.
Shaw regains half guard.
Shaw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Shaw looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Shaw is looking to improve his position.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Shaw is staying active underneath Frederick, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Shaw has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Frederick is working away from the top position though.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Frederick shoots in for a takedown but Shaw shows good takedown defense.

Shaw trying to control the position from guard on top but Frederick is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Frederick has control of Shaw's left arm, preventing Shaw from doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
I would just about give that final round to Terrance Shaw.
I think Frederick has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
