Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jimmy Carruthers (ranked 3976 p4p, 197 weight class) and Gabriel Ward (ranked 7635 p4p, 300 weight class). Gabriel Ward told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ward misses the jab.
It looked like Carruthers wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Carruthers throws out a leg kick but Ward moves out of range and Carruthers only half commits.
Ward misses with a hook.
Ward uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Carruthers.
Ward pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Carruthers back to the cage. Ward follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Carruthers wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.

Carruthers throws a body punch but Ward moves out of range.

Carruthers lands an overhand left. A wild punch that just about connected.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Carruthers steps into range and cracks Ward with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Ward flops backwards and Carruthers dives into his guard looking to finish!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Carruthers got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ward has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Carruthers has managed to get both his arms back between Ward's legs - danger averted.
Carruthers has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Ward is proving hard to escape from.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Ward has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Carruthers can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ward has his foot on Carruthers's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Carruthers works his way back into a safe position though.

Ward is looking for a triangle but Carruthers pushes his legs off easily.

Ward is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Carruthers defends well.
Carruthers stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ward swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Carruthers seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Carruthers is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Ward has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Carruthers is looking to defend but Ward has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Carruthers! Ward pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Carruthers taps out and this one is all over!
