PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between BJ Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Daniel Kellman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Kellman has chosen Murmaider as his entrance music. Both these guys are coming into the fight with injuries so let's see if that has a bearing on the fight. Both fighters really staring eachother down here, as Daniel Kellman enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Daniel Kellman!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Valeri Chadov and Ivan Kurochkin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn fails with a takedown attempt.
Daniel Kellman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kellman looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Penn changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Kellman tries to avoid it but Penn manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Kellman to the ground. Kellman escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Kellman is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Penn keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Kellman's head.

Penn thows a huge punch but Kellman dodges it nicely.
Kellman wants to get back to his feet.
Kellman is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Penn seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Penn shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kellman as he avoids it easily.
Penn will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Penn working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Kellman has hold of Penn's hands but Penn slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

Penn shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Kellman as he jumps to the side.
Kellman lands with a kick to the temple. Penn shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Penn feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Kellman rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Penn moves out of range and avoids them all easily.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Penn, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
