PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Tom Blakemore (ranked 3670 p4p, 178 weight class) and Petr Kotrc (ranked 4126 p4p, 201 weight class). Blakemore kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Down with the Trumpets. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Tom Blakemore!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of New York, Petr Kotrc!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Yasuomi Hirokawa and Taro Takaoka.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Blakemore closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Blakemore lands in his opponent's guard.

Kotrc is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Kotrc pulls Blakemore in close to prevent any damage.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Blakemore drops back, looking for a kneebar! Kotrc looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Kotrc looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Kotrc!

Kotrc stands up and beckons Blakemore to his feet.

Kotrc shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Blakemore's guard.

Blakemore looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Kotrc scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Blakemore to see if he's OK.

Kotrc decides to stand back up. Kotrc steps back and let's Blakemore get back to his feet.

Blakemore fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Kotrc to the ground. Blakemore is now in Kotrc's guard.
Kotrc wants to get back to his feet but Blakemore is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Blakemore might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Kotrc pulls Blakemore in close to his closed guard and prevents Blakemore from doing any damage or advancing position.

Kotrc scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Kotrc throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Blakemore was covering up waiting for the punch and Kotrc finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Blakemore lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Kotrc really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Blakemore. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Blakemore is fighting to break Kotrc's control of his arms but Kotrc is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.

Blakemore drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Blakemore jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Kotrc wants to stand but Blakemore is controlling the position.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Blakemore accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Kotrc is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Blakemore is controlling him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Blakemore's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Kotrc bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Kotrc wants to control but Blakemore is keeping him busy.
Blakemore tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Kotrc presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Blakemore takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Kotrc's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
