PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Eddie Johnson (ranked 4846 p4p, 490 weight class) and DaQuan Zachary (ranked 6064 p4p, 565 weight class). Zachary is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Motorsport. Eddie Johnson could well score a knockout today. He has the power to get to DaQuan Zachary's chin.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Eddie Johnson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, DaQuan Zachary!
The judges for this bout are Topper Green, Damien Edna and Bruno Hogan.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson is trying hard to land a takedown here. Zachary sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Johnson dives in and scores a takedown into Zachary's guard.

Zachary is working an open guard so Johnson takes the opportunity to get back to his feet.

Zachary gets caught flat footed, as Johnson shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Johnson stands and throws Zachary's legs to the side, diving into side control.

Johnson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Zachary for as long as he can get away with.
Johnson has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Zachary is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Johnson cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Johnson throws some wild stikes that Zachary manages to avoid easily.

Johnson stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.

Johnson's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Zachary can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Johnson controls the pace.

Zachary preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Zachary looks winded!
Johnson pulls out of a head kick attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Johnson.
Zachary connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Zachary defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Johnson.
Zachary throws a fast counter high kick but Johnson manages to duck under it in time.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Johnson fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Zachary sprawls well initially but Johnson persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Johnson is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Johnson looks for a takedown but Zachary sprawls well.
Johnson avoids the head kick by Zachary.
Zachary connects with a leg kick. Johnson looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Johnson is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Zachary can do to turn this around?
A decent looking body kick lands there for Zachary.
Zachary moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Zachary throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Zachary feints and then cracks Johnson's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Johnson down.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson fails to land the takedown.
Zachary throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Zachary lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.

Johnson closes the distance and clinches up with Zachary, looking for a takedown. Johnson pushes Zachary against the cage but Zachary circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Eddie Johnson. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zachary lands a head kick!
Zachary pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Zachary is breathing heavily.
Johnson tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Zachary throws a left and a right that both miss

and Johnson counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Johnson.
Zachary is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Johnson dives into side control.

Johnson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Zachary really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Johnson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Johnson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Zachary knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Johnson tries to score with some ground and pound. Zachary controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Zachary wants to get back to his feet but Johnson is dominant here and he's now got Zachary's back!

Johnson is working for a rear naked choke. Zachary is not defending it well and Johnson has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Zachary refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Zachary's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:30 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Eddie Johnson!
