Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Paul Hewitt (ranked 1780 p4p, 87 weight class) and Jean Labosky (ranked 5487 p4p, 244 weight class). Jean Labosky will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Paul Hewitt!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 21 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jean Labosky!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A punch combination from Labosky misses.
It looked like Hewitt wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit.
Labosky misses with a kick to the body.
Labosky with a nice cross.
Labosky fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Hewitt has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
The fighters circling - Hewitt throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Hewitt bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Labosky misses with a combination
and Hewitt counters with a straight punch to the midsection.
Good exchange - Labosky coming out on top.
Hewitt throws a jab but it's blocked by Labosky.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Labosky keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Hewitt takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Labosky throws a head kick but Hewitt moves out of range.
Labosky wants to clinch up but Hewitt keeps it at a distance.
Hewitt misses with a body shot.

Hewitt fails to land with a series of punches.
Labosky slips a straight right by Hewitt.
Hewitt throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Labosky on the side of the head.
Hewitt misses with an uppercut. Labosky saw that one coming.

Labosky moves into the clinch.
Labosky is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hewitt is stalling here. The referee will be looking to step in if he doesn't pick up the pace.
Hewitt scores with a shoulder strike.
Hewitt misses with a short punch on the inside.

Labosky's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Hewitt has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from Labosky.
Hewitt is looking light on his feet compared to last time was saw him fight.
Labosky fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Hewitt.
Hewitt connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Labosky throws a sloppy head kick and Hewitt moves out of range easily.
Labosky misses with a low kick.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Labosky swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Hewitt seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
Labosky fails in his attempt to clinch.
Labosky's jab looks to have found its range, popping Hewitt under the eye.
Labosky thows a body kick. Hewitt tries to catch it but that hurt him.
Labosky scores with a one two! Hewitt had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Labosky throws a lazy head kick
and Hewitt counters with a straight right hand.
Labosky throws a leg kick that is checked
and Hewitt cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.
Labosky lands with a slapping head kick.
Labosky uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Hewitt.
Labosky misses with the combination.

Labosky fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hewitt is looking to counter punch.
Labosky closes the distance but Hewitt moves to the side
and Hewitt counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Hewitt takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Labosky throws a poor cross that misses
enabling Hewitt to counter with a crisp jab.

Labosky forces Hewitt back against the cage and clinches.
Hewitt tries to throw a body punch but Labosky avoids it by throwing Hewitt back against the cage.
Labosky is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Labosky escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hewitt circles away from the clinch attempt
and Hewitt counters with a right hand to the body.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Labosky.
Labosky throws a low kick but it's checked well by Hewitt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Labosky throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Labosky pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Labosky tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
An attempted straight right counter from Hewitt misses the target.

Hewitt scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Labosky doesn't seem bothered though.
Labosky is still on wobbly legs! Can Hewitt finish him?
Labosky drops his hands momentarily. Hewitt doesn't need a second invitation, landing a shot to the temple. Labosky staggers and falls to the mat and the ref dives in to save him from any more punishment. Labosky doesn't seem happy with the stoppage but he was done.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:44 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Paul Hewitt!
