Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between William Dewey (ranked 5429 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ao Ki (ranked 2545 p4p, 250 weight class). Ao Ki has the power to score a knockout today if he connects clean with William Dewey's chin.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, William Dewey!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Ao Ki!
The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Taro Takaoka and Yasuomi Hirokawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Nice shot lands for Dewey.
Dewey slaps away a takedown attempt from Ki, before circling back to the center of the mat.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dewey enables Ki to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dewey manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Dewey looking for a guillotine here but Ki defends easily.
Ki advances to half guard.
Dewey is positioning himself well to prevent Ki advancing to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Ki is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dewey doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Ki.
Dewey is refusing to be controlled, as Ki sits in half guard.

Dewey wants to sweep but no luck.
Dewey has his hands on Ki's head, controlling the position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Dewey might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Dewey is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Dewey looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Ki wants to control from the top but Dewey keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Ki decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Dewey tries to roll over but Ki keeps him under control.

Dewey pulls Ki in close to prevent any damage.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Dewey wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Ki stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Dewey swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Ki wants to clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ki tries to close the distance and clinch up but Dewey swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ki goes for a double leg but Dewey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dewey continues to drive forward.
Ki doesn't manage to clinch there - Dewey circles away.
Dewey is looking for a counter combo.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Ao Ki will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


A head kick misses from Dewey.
William Dewey seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ki goes for a double leg but Dewey avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Dewey continues to drive forward.
Dewey throws a jab but it's blocked by Ki.

Dewey throws out a loose jab but Ki uses good head movement to avoid it.
Ki throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dewey's waist but Dewey gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ki off to one side.

Dewey is looking for a sweep. Ki is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Dewey is doing well to control the position and prevent Ki from advancing to side control.
Ki tries to pass the half guard into mount. Dewey knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.

Dewey is controlling Ki's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Dewey is in a tricky position but he's been working on his transitions down at Outer Heaven Dojo, so we'll see if he gets out of it.

Ki is trying to control. Dewey wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.
Ao Ki has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ki is looking to advance position but Dewey won't allow it.

Ki tries to clinch but Dewey is having none of it.
Dewey dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Ki. That did some damage!

Ki closes the distance and clinches.

Ki tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Dewey smiles and moves away.

Dewey throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.
Ki uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dewey.

The fight stays on the outside here - Ki looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

and Ki holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Dewey misses with a body punch.
Dewey lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Dewey creates a bit of distance and throws an elbow that only just misses.
Dewey lands a left hand.
Ki on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Dewey pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
A combination from Dewey does no damage.
Ki tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Ki moves away from the strike by Dewey.

Ki closes the distance and pushes Dewey back into the cage.
Ki blocks a body shot from Dewey.
Dewey lands a left hand.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Ki tries for a takedown but Dewey manages to get underhooks.

A short body shot lands from Dewey as the two fighters clinch.
Dewey lands a nice looking hook to the body, against the cage.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dewey can't find room to land a body shot as Ki controls the action.
Ki tries for a takedown but Dewey manages to get underhooks.
Ki wants a takedown.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

William Dewey dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!

Dewey ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Ki moves away.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Ki crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Dewey - the referee stops the clock and Ki gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Dewey. Ki manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.
Ki tries to score a power double leg takedown but Dewey sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Ki somewhat.

Dewey escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ki gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Dewey has his hands on Ki's head, controlling the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Dewey goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Dewey takes a swing at Ki's ribcage but misses.
And Ki tries to counter it with a takedown but Dewey pushes his down on his head and steps out.

Ki shoots in looking for a takedown. Dewey tries to sprawl out of it but Ki keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dewey manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Dewey is looking to control Ki's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Dewey avoid being mounted?

William Dewey showed his dominance in that final round.
