PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jonathan Ray (ranked 25589 p4p, 352 weight class) and Tex Bolt (ranked 25018 p4p, 347 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Jonathan Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Tex Bolt!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bolt closes the distance and clinches up with Ray, looking for a takedown. Bolt pushes Ray against the cage but Ray circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Bolt misses with a takedown attempt - Ray sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bolt throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Ray's waist but Ray gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bolt off to one side.
Jonathan Ray has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tex Bolt.
Bolt tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Ray swivels and escapes.

Bolt scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
You can see the frustration on Ray's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Ray throws a couple of strikes even though he's not really in a good position to do so.
Ray manages to work his way to half guard, despite Bolt's best efforts.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray is pressing down on Bolt's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Ray lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Bolt can do anything to dispel that myth.
Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Bolt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Bolt has his foot on Ray's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Ray works his way back into a safe position though.
Bolt can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Ray controls the pace.
Ray works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Bolt is looking for a sweep. Ray is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ray trying to control the action but Bolt is working from the bottom.
Bolt avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Ray.
Bolt is holding on to half guard well.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Bolt wants to get back to full guard.
Ray really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Ray tries to stand but his arm is trapped.
Ray is keen to just control but Bolt is a slippery customer.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ray displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Ray fails with the takedown.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Bolt.

Ray shoots in but Bolt avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Ray fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Tex Bolt seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Ray is breathing heavily.
Bolt darts in looking for a takedown but Ray gets double underhooks and turns Bolt into the cage.
Nice body kick there by Ray.

Bolt feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Bolt drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Ray manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Bolt has Ray in his guard.

Ray wants to control from the top but Bolt keeps moving.
Ray works a leg free and moves into half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Ray tries to pass to full mount but Bolt defends it.
Ray passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Bolt!
Bolt is desperately trying to improve his position but Ray has a good base and remains in mount.
Ray trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Bolt tries to control Ray's body but Ray pushes him off. Bolt squirms to his side and now Ray has his back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Ray dominated that round.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Bolt closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Bolt lands in his opponent's guard.
Ray working a defensive guard here.
Bolt trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Ray trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Ray bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Bolt's guard.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Bolt keeping moving, preventing Ray from controlling successfully.

Ray got a little sloppy there for a moment and Bolt has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Ray has managed to get both his arms back between Bolt's legs - danger averted.
Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Bolt is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Ray trying to stand up but can't free himself from Bolt's guard.
Ray wants to control from the top but Bolt keeps moving.

Bolt looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Ray passes into side control.

Ray looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.
Bolt is looking to regain half guard here but Ray keeps moving and retains side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bolt wants to control but Ray postures up.
Jonathan Ray overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Bolt is not in a great position here, taking some shots.
Ray tries to stand but Bolt is controlling his head.
Ray is looking to take a break and control but Bolt is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Bolt manages to work his way to half guard, despite Ray's best efforts.
Bolt is breathing heavily.

Bolt tries to get to full guard but Ray has control of the leg.
Ray wants to lay and pray for a moment but Bolt keeps working.
Bolt is looking to control Ray's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Bolt avoid being mounted?
Bolt preventing any damage for now, controlling his opponent's head.
Bolt is not content to let Ray control the position.

Ray is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Ray missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.
Bolt wants to get back to full guard.
Ray seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Ray trying to mount his opponent but Bolt defends it.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Bolt gets a double leg takedown into Ray's guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Ray has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Bolt is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
A battle for position here, against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jonathan Ray dominated that second round.
That's time! Ray's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. And we move into the final round!


Bolt leaves Ray with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Ray shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bolt as he jumps to the side.

Bolt dives in and scores a takedown into Ray's guard.
Bolt looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
Bolt is looking to pass into half guard but Ray pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Ray is in guard.

Ray slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Bolt is trying to control Ray's posture but Ray avoids it.
Bolt really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ray. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray trying to control the action but Bolt is working from the bottom.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The referee asks Ray politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Ray prefers to stall for the moment though.

Bolt tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Ray presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!
Ray looking to control but Bolt is working nicely, looking to advance position himself.
Bolt tries to hold on but Ray postures up.
Bolt keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Ray can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Bolt is looking to escape.
Ray with good strikes from the mount here!
Ray is landing with some decent strikes but Bolt is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

Bolt tries to improve his position but Ray has taken his back! Ray has a choke - it's sunk in pretty tight... Will Bolt tap? No... maybe... yes! He's tapped! Ray pushes Bolt away and gets up to celebrate with his corner!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Jonathan Ray!
