PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orval Parker (ranked 5853 p4p, 0 weight class) and Diamond Dave (ranked 5713 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Orval Parker!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Diamond Dave!
The judges for this bout are Donald Grub, Andrew Berry and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dave looks to land a combination but Parker avoids it well.
Dave displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Parker.
No luck for Dave with that takedown attempt.

Dave has managed to clinch.
Parker tries to break the clinch but Dave is controlling the position.
Dave is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Parker pulls him back up using the underhooks.

Parker pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Parker misses with a takedown attempt - Dave sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Parker is defended easily by Dave.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Orval Parker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Parker shoots in looking for a takedown. Dave tries to sprawl out of it but Parker keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Dave manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Dave.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Dave is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Parker is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Dave looks up at the clock and then as Parker takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dave smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

Parker is looking for a sweep.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parker struggling a bit here.
Dave tries to move to mount but Parker blocks the move with his legs.
Dave wants to control but Parker is keeping him busy.
Dave looks up at the clock and then as Parker takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Dave smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Parker is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Dave perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Dave tries to pass the half guard into mount. Parker knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Parker trying to hold on to Dave's head to control him but Dave postures up.

Dave is looking for a kimura here.
Dave is trying to control the action in half guard but Parker is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Parker looks like he's trying to stand up.
Dave landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Dave really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Parker. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Dave is controlling the pace.

Parker is breathing heavily.
Parker tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Dave has advanced to mount. Uh oh.

Dave wants to control the pace but Parker is squirming around nicely.
Parker wants to try and get back to his feet.
Dave avoids the attempt from Parker to control.
Dave trying to control but he's not successful this time.
Parker throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Dave takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Dave working for a guillotine from mount but Parker is in no mood to give up.
Parker is bucking up trying to escape but Dave cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diamond Dave dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Parker is fighting off a takedown attempt but Dave is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Parker to the mat. Parker regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Dave is standing up over Parker. Parker looks to escape but Dave dives into side control.

Dave wants to control but Parker is keeping him busy.
Dave tries to advance to mount but Parker denies him.

Dave is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Parker knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Parker throws an elbow to the body but it doesn't land.

Parker is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Dave has just dragged him back down to the mat.

Dave wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Parker, who protects the arm well.
Parker is working hard to escape and get back to his feet. After a battle for position, Dave asserts his dominance and retains side control.
Parker is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.
Parker throws a strike from the bottom that misses.
Dave content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

Diamond Dave has got the better of the ground game so far.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Dave is taking a breather. Parker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Let's hope that Dave has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Parker is defending against the submission attempts here by Dave.
Dave is taking a breather. Parker says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Dave looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Parker with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Dave lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Dave is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Dave is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Parker has managed to free his arm - good work.
Parker wants to get back to full guard.
Dave uses his free foot to push down on Parker's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Parker.

Dave is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Parker can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Dave is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Parker is surviving well by controlling Dave's body position as best he can.

Parker bucks Dave off and manages to get back to his feet!

Dave shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Parker is trying to keep Dave in close.

Parker is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Dave looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Dave with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Dave must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Parker is wriggling around but Dave manages to pass to half guard.
Dave has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Dave slips a nice elbow through Parker's hands, connecting with Parker's forehead.
Dave seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Diamond Dave showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!

Dave gets to his feet - Parker follows without any prompting.
Dave goes for a double leg but Parker avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Parker continues to drive forward.
Diamond Dave is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Parker changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Dave tries to avoid it but Parker manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Dave to the ground. Dave escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Parker fails to pull guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Parker tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Dave just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Orval Parker. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Parker takes a knee to the side of the body.

Dave wants the takedown. Parker is fighting it off but Dave persists and manages to bring the fight to the ground, ending up in Parker's guard against the cage.

The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Dave. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.

Dave thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Parker wants to get back to his feet but Dave is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.

Dave gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.

Dave closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Parker might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Dave in particular looking to stall.

Parker has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Dave is working away from the top position though.

Dave is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Parker is just riding it out for now. Dave eventually gives up the hold.

Diamond Dave is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Diamond Dave comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Dave has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
