Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 34 - 23 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ricardo Monteban!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 5 - 1, fighting out of New York, Dado Mata!
The judges for this bout are Phil Schofield, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monteban swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Mata misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Monteban.
Mata throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Mata looks to score with a jab to the body but Monteban is just out of range.
A telegraphed right hand from Monteban misses the target.
Mata darts in and out, connecting with a jab.
Mata loads up on a big right hand but Monteban slips the punch.
Monteban tests Mata's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Monteban wants to clinch
and Mata counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Monteban digs a good hook to Mata's body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monteban throws an overhand right that lands on Mata's shoulder, as Mata tries to avoid the shot.
It seemed like Mata was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.
Mata moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Mata throws a body shot but no joy.

Monteban throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Mata tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Monteban is in Mata's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Monteban scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Monteban throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Mata works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Monteban preventing the sweep.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Monteban accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Mata had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Monteban defends it easily.
Mata not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Monteban avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Monteban landing with the ground and pound.
Mata working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Monteban.
Mata lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.


That's two minutes gone in the round.
Mata wants to control from the top but Monteban keeps moving.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Monteban is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Monteban has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mata trying to control but Monteban is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Monteban keeping full guard, as Mata tries to pass.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Monteban escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mata gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Monteban seems to have improved his submission grappling technique since last time we saw him. Let's see if he can pull off a submission.
Mata sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Monteban's guard.

Mata looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Monteban is working on a guillotine. He's managed to get to full guard and he's really squeezing tight! Mata is tapping! Great win for Monteban!

After winning the bout, Ricardo Monteban thanked all his fans and promised he'd do even better in his next fight. The crowd seemed to love his humility.
