PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Levi Hatfield (ranked 24263 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jeff Rinaldi (ranked 5873 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Levi Hatfield has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Levi Hatfield!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jeff Rinaldi!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Wagner Zegers and Patrick Alders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Rinaldi shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Rinaldi showed some decent athleticism there.
Hatfield trying to hold on to Rinaldi's head to control him but Rinaldi postures up.

Hatfield pushes Rinaldi off and gets back to his feet.

Rinaldi gets the takedown into side control.
Rinaldi with the ground and pound but Hatfield regains half guard under the barage of strikes.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hatfield is looking to escape.

Rinaldi is working for a submission of some sort.
Rinaldi is looking to advance position but Hatfield won't allow it.
Rinaldi is taking a breather. Hatfield says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Rinaldi not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Rinaldi not doing much here.
Hatfield knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Rinaldi on the ground.

Rinaldi is looking for a kimura but Hatfield is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Rinaldi to get the leverage.
Hatfield tries to kick Rinaldi off but Rinaldi keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Rinaldi seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rinaldi looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Hatfield might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Hatfield tries to hold on but Rinaldi postures up.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
It looks like Rinaldi might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Hatfield's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Hatfield tries to pull guard but Rinaldi forces him back to his feet, against the cage.

Jeff Rinaldi has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hatfield throws an elbow that misses. Rinaldi uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hatfield's guard. Nice move by Rinaldi!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Rinaldi gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Hatfield keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Rinaldi closes the distance and clinches.
Rinaldi wants to break free. God knows he wants to breaaaak freeee.

Rinaldi has clasped his hands together around Hatfield's back... aaand, he's got a takedown into side control. Nicely done.

Let's hope that Rinaldi has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Hatfield is looking to control Rinaldi's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Hatfield avoid being mounted?
Rinaldi perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
Hatfield could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

We're seeing a lot of stalling here from Rinaldi.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Hatfield shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Rinaldi as he jumps to the side.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Levi Hatfield. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hatfield tries to score a power double leg takedown but Rinaldi sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Hatfield somewhat.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Hatfield takes a couple of big shots there - the referee warns him that he has to defend himself better.
Rinaldi takes a little break here. Hatfield wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.
Rinaldi has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Rinaldi tries to move to mount but Hatfield blocks the move with his legs.

Rinaldi stands up and beckons Hatfield to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jeff Rinaldi showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Rinaldi has managed to clinch.

Rinaldi has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Hatfield regains guard immediately.
Hatfield is looking to stand back up but Rinaldi counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hatfield.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rinaldi takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Rinaldi decides to return to a standing position.

Rinaldi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rinaldi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Hatfield is being controlled here.

Rinaldi working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Rinaldi lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face.

Rinaldi is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Hatfield knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rinaldi in side control, just content to control the action for now.

Rinaldi takes a little break here. Hatfield wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Rinaldi is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Hatfield has escaped the position, nice work there.

Rinaldi stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Rinaldi closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Hatfield to the mat! Hatfield manages to get full guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Rinaldi slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Yet more stalling tactics from Rinaldi.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jeff Rinaldi comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rinaldi has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
