PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Kim Bo Myung (ranked 6273 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jig Saw (ranked 25303 p4p, 0 weight class). Jig Saw told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Kim Bo Myung!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jig Saw!
The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Daniel Franklin and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saw closes the distance and clinches up with Myung, looking for a takedown. Saw pushes Myung against the cage but Myung circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

Myung shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Saw napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Myung trying to control the position but Saw is working away.
Saw is trying to control Myung's posture but Myung avoids it.
Saw regains half guard.
Saw trying to hold on to Myung's head to control him but Myung postures up.
Myung seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Saw does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Saw wants to get back to full guard but Myung has passed into side control.

Saw wants to control but Myung postures up.
Myung is pausing for a moment. What's he doing? It looks like he's clearing his nose. Oh dude! He's shot a load of snot all down Saw's shoulder. That is not cool.
Myung is working Saw over with some ground and pound from side control.
Saw taking a bit of punishment here - Myung scoring with strikes.
Myung wants to control but Saw is keeping him busy.

Myung tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Saw is letting Myung control him for a moment.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Saw tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Saw sneaks back into half guard.
Myung is just content to waste time from the top position. Saw takes advantage of the situation and regains full guard.
Myung showing good wrestling skills to control the position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Saw keeping moving, preventing Myung from controlling successfully.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Saw is trying hard to land a takedown here. Myung sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Myung drives through and clinches with Saw against the cage.
Saw tries to break free but Myung pushes him back against the cage.

Myung breaks from the clinch.

Myung shoots in and gets a takedown into Saw's guard.
Myung advances to half guard.
It looks like Myung is going to stand back up.
Myung is taking a breather. Saw says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Saw is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Saw looking to work for a kimura from the bottom.
Saw looks winded!
Myung seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Myung is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Saw defends it well.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Kim Bo Myung dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Saw tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Myung throws a head kick but Saw moves out of range.
Saw with the counter takedown but Myung avoids it easily.
Saw fails with a takedown attempt.
Myung stuffs the takedown.
Saw looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
Kim Bo Myung has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Jig Saw.
Saw stuffs the takedown.
Myung throws a hook but Saw avoids it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Myung instigates a clinch.
Myung is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Myung is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Saw can't fight it off and eventually Myung manages to take the fight to the floor. Saw looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Saw has a closed guard, preventing Myung from standing up.
Saw is breathing heavily.

Myung controlling from the top position.
Myung wants to pass the guard but Saw is keeping the position.
Myung trying to control the position from guard on top but Saw is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Myung seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Myung working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Myung engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Myung wants to control from the top but Saw keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Myung has taken the fight to the clinch.

Myung manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.

Saw got a little sloppy there for a moment and Myung has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Saw has managed to get both his arms back between Myung's legs - danger averted.
Myung has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Saw has passed into side control.

Saw decides to stand back up.
Saw looking to land some kicks to the body here.

Myung shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Saw's guard.

Myung is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Saw is trying to hold Myung in close to prevent damage but Myung has managed to pass into half guard.

Myung wants to control but Saw is keeping him busy.
Myung drops an elbow to the side of Saw's head.
Myung is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Saw can do to turn this around?

Saw trying to hold on to Myung's head to control him but Myung postures up.

Kim Bo Myung dominated that second round.
That's time! Myung's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!


Saw throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Myung's waist but Myung gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Saw off to one side.

Myung shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Myung showed some decent athleticism there.

Myung perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Myung stalling away here and it's allowed Saw to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Myung wants to stand but Saw is controlling his posture from full guard.

Myung trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Myung trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Myung would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Saw takes the fight into the clinch.
Myung is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Saw gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Myung has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Saw uses from the top position.
Myung pulls Saw in close to his closed guard and prevents Saw from doing any damage or advancing position.

Saw throwing strikes but missing.

Myung is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Myung is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.

Myung looking for a sweep. Not yet Myung, not yet.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Saw would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Myung feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Saw bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Myung's guard.

Saw takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Myung wants to stand and escape but Saw is having none of it.
Myung trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Myung manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Saw manages to get himself to full guard.

Saw is trying to keep Myung in close.
Myung not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Myung decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Saw, up you get!

Myung tries to clinch up but Saw circles away and keeps his distance.
Jig Saw has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Kim Bo Myung is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Saw dives in for a single leg takedown but Myung sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Kim Bo Myung showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Myung has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
