PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Adam Wallace (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fabricio Rua (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Adam Wallace!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Fabricio Rua!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Alan Glass and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rua rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Wallace moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Wallace shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Rua as he avoids it easily.

Wallace closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Rua to the mat! Rua manages to get full guard.

Rua looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Wallace passes into side control.

Wallace is trying to get an arm triangle but Rua is defending well.
Rua regains half guard there - taking advantage of Wallace's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Wallace tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rua controls his leg.
Wallace is breathing heavily.
Rua is trying to control but can't.
Wallace wants to stand up but Rua has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Wallace blocks the strikes from Rua.
Rua manages to get to full guard.

Rua looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Wallace trying to stand up but can't free himself from Rua's guard.

Rua has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Wallace can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Rua working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Wallace doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Wallace manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Wallace pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Rua is keeping the position for now.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Rua is trying to keep Wallace in close.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Rua is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Rua is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wallace passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Wallace is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Rua is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Wallace wants to stand but Rua has his arm trapped.
Rua regains half guard.
Wallace trying to mount his opponent but Rua defends it.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Rua makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!
Adam Wallace seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Wallace takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Rua throws a body punch but Wallace moves out of range.

and Rua counters with a shoot takedown. Wallace fights it but they end up in guard.

Wallace kicks Rua off and gets to his feet.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Wallace slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.
Rua slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
Rua is looking to take a break and control but Wallace is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Wallace sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Wallace is looking for a sweep. Rua is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Wallace wants to get back to full guard but Rua has passed into side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Rua prevents Wallace from getting the reversal.
Rua is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Wallace can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Rua lands with some vicious ground and pound - can Wallace hang on?

Rua has hold of Wallace's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Wallace manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Rua wants to control the pace but Wallace is squirming around nicely.
Wallace slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.

Wallace is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Rua pulls his head out easily.

Rua is trying to work for a kimura but Wallace is defending well.
Wallace trying to control but Rua postures up.
Wallace wants to get back to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Rua is keen to just control but Wallace is a slippery customer.
Rua is pressing down on Wallace's thigh, looking to free his foot. Wallace is holding on for now.

Wallace actively working from the bottom here.
Wallace is not content to let Rua control the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Wallace doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Rua counters with a takedown into side control.
Rua trying to control the action but Wallace is working from the bottom.

Rua thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Wallace is moving his hips around well on the bottom and has managed to get back to half guard.

Rua is actively looking for submissions here but good counter grappling here from Wallace as he works his way to full guard.
Wallace keeping moving, preventing Rua from controlling successfully.
Wallace is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

Wallace pushes a forearm under Rua's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Rua is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
