PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Britt Burgess (ranked 8364 p4p, 0 weight class) and Stig Ullvang (ranked 5832 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Britt Burgess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Stig Ullvang!
The judges for this bout are Marco Blurström, Anni Minnemäki and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ullvang gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Burgess jumps guard.
Ullvang trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Burgess manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Burgess trying to control but Ullvang is working from the bottom.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Ullvang can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ullvang has an active guard here but Burgess has managed to pass into half guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ullvang tries to kick Burgess off in order to stand up. Burgess Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control.
Ullvang prevents Burgess from moving into mount.

Burgess trying to control the action but Ullvang is working from the bottom.
Ullvang manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Burgess has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Ullvang is working away from the top position though.
Burgess wants to get back to his feet.
Ullvang uses his free foot to push down on Burgess's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Burgess.
Ullvang takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Burgess tries to lock up and control but Ullvang gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Ullvang goes for an armbar but Burgess turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Burgess.
Ullvang is pulling down on Burgess's head. It's preventing any offense from Burgess, at least for the moment.
Burgess controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Ullvang working for a triangle but Burgess defends it easily.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Ullvang wants to stand up but Burgess is controlling him.

Burgess got a little sloppy there for a moment and Ullvang has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Burgess has managed to get both his arms back between Ullvang's legs - danger averted.

Ullvang is continuing to stall.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Burgess throws a leg kick

and Ullvang counters by moving into the clinch.
Burgess jumps guard but Ullvang turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Burgess misses with a shot to the kidneys.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Ullvang has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Burgess avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Burgess slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Stig Ullvang will probably get the nod.
That's time! Burgess's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Ullvang tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Burgess is looking to counter the offense by Ullvang and move into the clinch.

Ullvang decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Ullvang is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Burgess reverses the position - he's now on top in Ullvang's guard.

Ullvang makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Ullvang.
Ullvang wants to sweep but no luck.
Burgess stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Ullvang swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ullvang is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Burgess shoots in and drives through. Ullvang sprawls well.

Britt Burgess is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Burgess escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Ullvang gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Ullvang is stalling in the full guard.
The adventures of Ullvang the control monster continue. Boring.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Ullvang accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ullvang tries a head kick but it misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Stig Ullvang will probably get the nod - 10:9.

Burgess tries to close the distance and clinch up but Ullvang swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Ullvang shoots in but no luck this time.
Ullvang fails with a takedown attempt.

Ullvang drives through and clinches with Burgess against the cage.
Burgess has a couple of punches blocked by Ullvang.
Burgess tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Ullvang smiles and moves away.

Ullvang tries to counter with a clinch but Burgess shakes him off and moves away.

Ullvang drives through and clinches with Burgess against the cage.

Ullvang drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Britt Burgess has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Stig Ullvang.
A frustrated look appears on Ullvang's face as he tries to break the clinch.
Burgess stalling in the clinch but Ullvang improves position.

Ullvang has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Burgess uses from the top position.
Ullvang bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Burgess's guard.

Stig Ullvang comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Ullvang has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
